That's an easy one to answer. Because right now cruisers represent over 60% of all motorcycle sales. KTM makes a modern V-Twin in the Adventure Series, Aprilia makes a V-Twin in the Mana and Shiver series, Ducati makes nothing but V-Twins in the Panigale, Multistrada and Monster series, Honda had a modern V-Twin in the Superhawk and RC-51 series, Moto Guzzi has a modern V Twin in the California. Do you see a pattern there? Have you seen the sales of all these bikes?
The V-Twin and cruisers are locked together like scooters and horizontal singles. Honda has invested zillions in Vertical Twins (CB 500 and NC 700) because they believe that people are ready for simple, fuel efficient and easy to maintain bikes. Manufacturers rack their brains to think of new markets to invest in, yet what sells? American V-Twin replica cruisers. Heck, Harley just discontinued the XR-1200 for lack of sales and the magazines loved it.
Until the market shifts and people start buying something else they go where the money is. Cruisers.
