I rode up from the city to albany ny with about 25 of us (I87) I joined the pack in Monroe/woodbury . We all gassed up the jap bikes started in the front of the group . By the time we went one exit NewBerg the jap bikes were in the back of the group .

Old and Crafty and a better honking motor underneath, those other bikes are good for long runs like around a track, they lack low end torque. Alleyoop I'm not eating crow. A Jap bike like that should have won, by a mile. A good rider is always worth 10 horsepower and Harleys aren't drag bikes anymore. Victorys, maybe, but not Harleys. I'm sure a Victory Judge makes a great drag bike, but not a raked Sportster. Besides, as Jim said, old age and treachery won, not the bike. Ricky would have lost to a 257 Roketa.

Rokata.... sounds like and electric shaver. I have never seen a 250 clone that could run with my Reflex. I give them a few more years and they will be a match some of the better machines but will take time, I remember when a Honda was considered the same as a chino is today.

Actually what I said was The vid wasn't meant to start a war. Just that old and crafty usually wins out over young and stupid LOL the bike also had a lot to do with it. Never judge a book by its cover whether you are talking Man or machine. Some of those old Rat bikes are faster than they look. I hope you weren't referring to the bike in the video, that is an old FL Rat Bike, not a Sportster, it would have been even funnier if Ricky was beat by a Sportster. You could be possibly right that Ricky would have lost to a 257 Roketa, if the Roketa was being pulled by that Harley! I would like to add one more comment, seems to me that there are folks that make comments that Harleys are unrealiable and won't make long trips without braking down. Now I have to wonder if these folks are talking from experience or just repeating what they heard from die hard Harley Haters. Personally I have taken many long trips on my FLHTC and since 1986 I have not had one breakdown or major wrench taken to it. One of those trips was with a group of 47 Harleys from Dayton, Ohio to Sturgis SD over 2500 miles round trip without one breakdown.

I've been a motorcycle rider for decades longer than I've been a scooter owner. It's given me the courage to cruise the Interstates on mine instead of clinging to back roads for 400 miles one way on a trip. And since the video was acting it doesn't mean a thing. As a former motorcycle racer I know a real race start from acting. Pure Hollywood to make Harley owners laugh in glee. Sad, really sad.

Why yes I'd love to. a And in addition to collecting a few trophies for a top three finish I was racing a DT-1 Yamaha, I'm sure you never heard of it though, which was converted from dual purpose duty against CZ 250s and Bultaco Pursangs that were purpose made for racing. I raced in 250 Amateur class with fields up to 35 people. Good starts were imperative or you were buried. That's how I know so much about how to race. I also won trophies in Field Meets, Timed Road Runs and closed course Trials. My favorite trophy, and the only one I've saved for thirty years, is my "High Score of the Day" trophy from the June, 1980 Cross Island Field Meet. I used my 600 pound Kawasaki in all sorts of skill games to take my class and rack up the most points over lighter and smaller bikes in other classes. The presenter said, "This has never happened before that a heavyweight bike has amassed the best overall score." No applause is necessary. The second picture shows me chasing a Single Pipe CZ, again, I'm sure you never heard of it. Now tell me about your motorcycle career.

Oh, and another thing. When I raced I was between 17 and 21 years old. Tractor Trailers and cars on the interstate are nothing in comparison to racing 35 crazed teenagers (which most of us were) who don't believe that they could be hurt. I guess that's why I'm not afraid to take a 250 scooter on the highway.

And to stem any nonsense, no better words- that malarkey-that I'm not the racer in the picture feast your eyes on this. 250 Amateur Class. That was my last year of racing. The class became heavy with children bankrolled by "DAD" and I was a working kid at low paying jobs and I couldn't compete anymore. Still I finished 11th in my class with one distinction. See the name J. Adamo? That's Jimmy Adamo who went on to fame racing Ducatis for Reno Leoni. I met him again the day I bought my Z from Jon Baugh a famous Bike drag racer who worked at Orient Express where I bought it. Sadly Jimmy died at Daytona when his brakes failed coming off the banking. Yes, scooter riders I beat a rated AMA Superbike Racer in the dirt when we were both younger. Again hold the applause and a simple, "I'm ever so sorry I doubted your word-JIMMY-I never realized how accomplished you are." I'm waiting.
