Do you have a performance CDI on it with advanced timing? Alleyoop

Well if it kicks back I would say you have high compression which is good but the CDI is to advanced, I would try another CDI. You will get kick backs if when you shut it off it happens to stop just before on the next turn of the crank it is on its compression stroke. It when you shut it off it happens to be on the exhuast stroke it will not kick back because it has enough force to push through the compression stroke. Alleyoop

After replacing the black elbow pipe that connects the water pump to the engine. And replacing the water pump at the same time. Getting the air out of the cooling system, I still had overheating problems. The thermostat was checked and it was working. I went ahead and ordered a brand new clean thermostat for the heck of it. Well after more bleeding air out the system, new thermostat, new water pump and elbow pipe I can say the overheating problem appears to have been fixed.

Great to hear the overheating has been solved that is a major concern and a bad situation, that can ruin your motor.
As for the hard starting and kickbacks check the Valve cover Vent the hose is kinked or blocked at the end and not letting it Vent if it is not venting it does not relieve pressure in the crankcase. But I would try another CDI, it is to advanced even for a OEM CDI.
Question: DID IT ALWAYS KICKBACK since you've had it or WHEN DID IT START doing this? And if So what changes were made if any?
Does it start better ONCE it is warmed up? Is the hard starting ONLY when the motor is COLD? Alleyoop

Alley, its always done it. I have a new problem now. I was going to fuel her up and try and sell the trike. While doing a test run to the gas station I hear a "chatter" in the cvt belt area. Well 2 miles from the house the cvt belt broke. I had to walk home. 3872 miles was all the belt got on it.

Alley, everything about this trike is CHEAP. Yea big time bummer, its going to be at least another week or two before I get her fixed up well enough to sell. Thats if the belt is the correct belt that I ordered from Sunny. They have been known to not send the correct parts. They have sent wrong parts on 3 occasions already. So i'm hoping that the extra belt that I have from them is the right size and all. I have to try and figure out how to the get the CVT belt cover off too. The cover is touching the body so that means I have to possibly take part of the body panels apart just to get the cover off.
Oh and the kickback issue, it seems to start better and not kickback as much when its warmed up. But I just showed a buddy, that trailered the trike home for me how she cranks, and it was hard to crank. tried it again and she cranked right up. Third time trying it once we got her unloaded, she was hard to crank again.

Yep, that is how mine used to be once warmed up it would start much easier and once in a while no kickbacks. That is when I experimented with different CDIs and found the Advanced ones would cause the kickbacks. I have like 5 CDIs and finally found one that is RETARDED for starting and low rpms and advances around 3000 rpms(WIN WIN). No more kickbacks cold or warm.
Question WHY DO YOU keep on ordering from SUNNY? Order from any of the Dealer Banners on top of the page that carry the belt sizes for your motor. Alleyoop

I had to order parts that I wasn't sure if any other part stores had compatible parts. So I just ordered a new belt while I was at it. I have never opened up the cvt box so I didnt know the size of the belt.

I just looked online and it appears to be the correct belt.(the most common replacement CVT drive belt for the Yamaha Linhai )
The belt that they sent is the "Gates Powerlink 856-23."

Hey Justin, I'm almost positive the belt should be a 871x23x30 www.moxiescooters-store.com/SPD/dia-23815--80004716-1312220326.jsp. Sunny's part number is 23815 and if you Google that number you'll come up with this belt. I am sure the 856 belt will work but if 871 is the correct belt length it will go higher in the variator and give you more top end speed.

And if it takes a 871x23x30, THAT may be why it broke, to short with the 856 belt trying to climb up the variator and pull the Clutch pully apart if it is to short it will put a lot of stress on the belt trying to stretch it. Alleyoop
