I have a 2013 tao tao 50 that is 1 month old. I was going down a big hill today and was going past 50 mpg. Now the speedometer stopped working. Did I over run it and it broke?

Learned this one after waitin about a week for a new cable: Loosen the cable at the wheel hub and turn it back and forth, if no resistance probably broken. In my case the super light grease in the hub allowed the speedo gears to jump out of place. Good grease and reallignment of the gears got me back on the road.
