Boy Alley's got that right, this is new territory for you Jwest. These things are made in the heart of China, why do you think they're so cheap? There is no regulation over there and they can do about what they want. If they have parts on the shelf that are different and they want to get rid of them they slap them on. They may be a bigger bore or a bigger ported head. Do not expect truth in advertising, accurate manuals or wiring diagrams, or even accurate badges on the outside of your bike. Some are better than others but caveat emptor. This is not Chevy or Ford, they play by different rules, or none. It helps to go through a guy like Rapid Jim that has a conscience and will correct any problems that may arise. Although Ice Bear does seem to be a good make. Mega Motor Madness has had a good rep so far and are one of our no ad sponsors so let us know on them.
Lots of debate on the engine codes and the P head. For a while it was thought the P head was higher performance. Personally I don't think so. Some think the P in the code means horizontal but why isn't it there everytime? Of course this is China. Others say the Q means GY6 which means horizontal and air cooled. I really don't know. I do know I bought two supposedly identical Bashans and they both have 1P57QMJ engines. One is a screamer and always has been. I transplanted it into a Puma and now it is freaky deeky fast. The other 1P57QMJ has struggled to keep up with twin brother. If somebody had told me that P meant power and I rode freaky I'd say yeah it's true. But having rode anemic brother P I'd have to say no consistency. And believe me, I tried every carb exhaust uni mod you could think of and it would not get consistently fast. I thought it was but damn Chinometers! That is until I changed the head with a BBK kit. So you don't know what's going on in there because a web site tells you. Look at Rapid Jim (eeek!) he's honest enough to tell you he hasn't been inside a 50cc yet so he doesn't know. Another thing about forums, you get one guy that took his bike apart and says "oh, I found this, they must ALL be like this!". That is inductive reasoning and it is a very shaky way to support a premise. This bird I found is black, therefore all birds are black. My P engine is 80cc, therefore all P engines are 80cc.....nah. Is that really Jim? EEEEEEK!!! Well he did say he'd never torn a 50cc TRIKE down so he gets a pass on that. The guy has taken enough engines apart, he's got creds in my book. So I'll go with his explanation for now. Jim, what's that funny smell? Incense? Nah...it's something from my college days....oh yeah...English Leather...never mind.

I think a 40% increase in cc's would make for a peppier engine,,, thanks for the video,,,,,

Not sure that really explains it either. I bought an engine from scrappy. That engine is marked 1P39QMB and it has a 39mm piston and jug.

I think a 40% increase in cc's would make for a peppier engine,,, thanks for the video,,,,, Yea there are other videos as well, and explains why a heavier 50cc trike would out do a much lighter 2 wheeler with the same stamped motor type. Alleyoop

Wouldn't the trike also have an additional final drive ratio? The chain and sprockets to the rear axle.

It may but i doubt it, even if it did a stock motor would not have enough horsepower to pull the taller gears. Don't forget those motors are barely pulling 3 hp at best and to do that they have to be running perfect. To get a 139qmb to run near 40mph a BBK is required and some have put in a 72cc BBK and only came in around 38mph. Alleyoop

Kind of off the subject, but ya trikes do have different final drive. The ratio of the front sprocket to the rear sprocket. And the ratio of the gears in the differential of the axle. I cant remember what that ratio is though.

What luck on a Sunday morning. I was wondering what the difference was between a139qmb abd a1pqmb. I finally found my engine code and I have the 1pqmb on a taotao 49cc 2017 moped. I paid for a big bore kit and got completely ripped of by the shop where I bought it in Dracut Mass. It goes about 45mph conditions permitting. It dog's out on incline, looses about 8mph. However Thanks for the knowledge I'm loving. Can't wait to rebuild it next week to see how much I got ripped off for so I can sew their arse for charging me for work they didn't do on my scoot. I'm a new b buy the way, and the DIY videos are filling me with knowledge about scooter engines. Thankyou all. God Bless!!!

I will start a tread on the rebuild with some pics. I did find out about the 139qmb and the1p39 qmb. The p code is supposed to be the better engine to have. I hope the man that made the video about this was correct. There is always a difference of opinion on most things. Any info is appreciated so I'm up for hearing more about these engine codes. Everyone have a very Blessed day.
