Have any of you upgrade your CDI to a "Performance" CDI? I bought ones of these Casoli branded "Performance" CDIs off EBAY and it does not work correctly. The EBAY listing said it is supposed to work with a 250cc. My scooter seems to be running good with the original CDI. When I install the Casoli CDI the scooter has a hard time starting, and a hard time continuing to run when I can get it to start. I had it running for a while with the Casoli, went into my house, came back out a few minutes later and the scooter had died. Basically this "Performance" CDI seems to be crap. I bought this with a "High performance" coil, and the coil seems to work fine. Anyone have any experience, recommendations, and/or suggestions regarding these, or other high performance CDIs? Here is a picture of one like the CDI I bought.

You have to remember, that CDI is retarded for starting and idleing it advances the timing around 3000 rpms. So what you need to do is Turn your IDLE up using the IDLE SPEED SCREW. I have the same CDI and when it started the IDLE was very low due to it being RETARDED for STARTING so no kickbacks occur and damage your Starter Clutch. Alleyoop

Alleyoop,
I have my idle speed adjusted correctly with the stock CDI so that the rear wheel is just barely trying to spin. I will try the Casoli again, but I think I just got a bad one.

Well it could be BUT, as soon as you put the Casoli back on your IDLE WILL BE REALLY LOW that is what I am telling you. You have to adjust the idle with it on compared with the STOCK CDI.
On mine the RPMS dropped about 500 and was idling at 1000 rpms and wanted to die with the Casoli CDI so I had to raise the Idle back up to 1500-1600 and no problems. Alleyoop

I put the Casoli CDI back on and the scooter started right up, and it did not die when idling. The idle speed did not seem to change with the Casoli, but I don't have a tach on my scooter to know for sure. I just adjusted the idle speed with the stock CDI until the rear tire just barely started to spin. the idle was a little low before that.
I will test more later, but for now it seems the Casoli CDI may be fine.
I found two more problems while testing today so I am opening a new thread for those.

Now you need to check it with a timing light and see if the timing changes .

I have not had a timing light for a few years now. I sold it since I was not using it. My mom may have one in her garage. How do you check the timing on these CN250 clones.
