Hello I'm a Newbie to this. I have a 2011 VIP Future Champion. As i was doing an oil change to the scooter I noticed that there was quite a bit of metal shavings on the small filter and in the oil. Is this Normal?
Thanks in Advance.

If it is a brand new scoot yes, but if not and it has some miles on it NO. How often do you change your oil or is this the first time changing it. Alleyoop

The scooter has about 3,100 miles. I just got it this past weekend and this was the first oil change. Supposedly the previous owner changed the oil a few times before giving it to me.

Is it shavings or good size pieces of metal? Also how is the motor running good and strong or not so good. Hard starting etc.. Alleyoop

I wouldn't panic just yet. Go another couple of hundred miles and see how it is. The previous owner might have NOT changed the oil and you're seeing the stuff he would have seen if he did.

Scooter didn't run when I first got it. I had to replace the carburetor and Stator. I got it to start but it's got a bad knock and wont stay running.
The shaving are small. After I changed the oil and tried starting it, when I checked the oil it was almost like i never changed it. Looked all dark.
@ kz1000st I think you may be right.

A knock is not good at all. little ticking or a little clattering just points to the valves, but a knock points to the crank. Can you do a VIDEO with sound so we can hear it. Alleyoop

I knew I hear a KNOCKING which is always no good, so you need to re-build get a new CRANK which means splitting the case. Your best bet is to get a new motor. Or just buy a whole new scoot for around 700.00 and since the riding season is over they will have some good deals. Alleyoop
