I put my Ice Bear 50cc with 100cc upgrade in the shed. I went out today to start it a and let it run with the doors open. Turn the key on pulled the hand brake. Nothing no sound and no brake light. I have headlights, turn signals and horn etc. Battery is up. I am thinking it may be the starter solenoid. These scooters are still a little bit confusing to a car guy. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks old round pants.

When you squeeze the brakes it SENDS voltage to brake lights and the Solenoid. So tape the brake on BOTH OF THEM they both send voltage to the lights and Solenoid. Then either with a Volt meter or 12V light Tester probe the YELLOW and GREEN wire Going into the SOLENOID it should have Voltage and do the same at one of the TAIL LIGHT sockets Test the GREEN and YELLOW wire going into the Socket it should have VOLTAGE.
If they do then your brakelights are out and need replaced. As far as the SOLENOID it is getting volatage on the Green and Yellow wire then it is the GROUND on your PUSH BUTTON start button or the SOLENOID has seen better days. To test if the Starter is not the problem JUMP the two TERMINALS on the Solenoid IT SHOULD spin the Starter. Let us know what you find doing the tests above: Alleyoop

Not to interrupt but you do mean he could have a bad brake light switch. Believe it or not a friend on Long Island had the same thing on her Yamaha Vino 125. Her left (rear) brake switch is not working so she's now starting it pulling on the front brake.

First of all thanks to everyone for their help. kz1000st was correct in suggesting the stop light switch. The wires had come loose from the switch. Had to allow for more slack. This seems to be a common problem with the substandard wiring. Thanks again to all.

Great!! Simple fix, But you do know each brake switch works independently and you could have squeezed the other brake to start it. So if it happens again keep that in mind, if one switch goes bad or gets disconnected squeeze the other brake handle. Alleyoop

It is really not as confusing as you think, each switch sends voltage to the same 2 things, the Brake Lights and the SOLENOID. The wires from each switch go into 1 common plug then on the other side of that plug it splits one goes to the Brakes and one goes to the Solenoid. The start button all that does is Grounds the SOLENOID to complete the circuit and activates the contacts inside the Solenoid to TOUCH both TERMINALS from the inside. That allows the 12 Volts from the Battery that is hooked up to one Terminal on the SOLENOID to pass to the other TERMINAL on the SOLENOID which is connected to the STARTER and sends the 12 Volts to the starter to activate it. I'll get on that on a warm spring day. As long as I can fire it up once in awhile this winter. The right brake switch will suffice . I hate wiring.
