is this hole in my tank filler neck my tank vent? i dont know where it goes beyond the hole. i dont think i have a charcoal canister. i also have a hose running down under my back fender that i cant tell where it goes. my filler cap is unvented. im pointing at the hole with a pen.

That is what it looks like a vent and it sits in a indented area so if gas splashs out it hopefully will stay there. But let me ask that hole there does a piece stick out to where a piece of hose could be connected to it?

The hose running down your back fender could be the tranny vent and or the valve cover vent.
Trace it back to where it is connected to.
Picture of it would also help identify it.

its neither the valve cover vent or the tranny vent. i cant tell if the hole has a hose on it or not. i dont have venting troubles at the moment

i just looked again. no hose connection. just a hole in the side of the filler neck. the hose goes up where I can't see and I'd have to remove plastic to see where it goes.

ok. i just looked at my parts book and in the pic parts 8&9 go around the filler neck and are called the 'overflow pipe'. i have a feeling that this is the fender hose. as for the fuel tank vent, nothing looks like it in the pic. i guess theres just supposed to be a hole and no hose fiiting and hose? what do you think?

No, it doesn't work like that. If it doesn't have a vented cap then there's a vent hose somewhere off of the filler neck or top of the tank. If your scooter is fairly new it will run to a canister. There are tank caps that are vented on the side of the cap or underneath that are hard to see.

no I was just saying that the hole in the side of the neck must be the vent and the mystery hose is a catch pan around the filler neck to put spilled gas on the ground if overfilled. the vent hole has no hose, its just a hole

heres a bit better pic of it. once again, its just a hole, no hose or fitting on the other side. just a hole. theres no unhooked hoses either so im guessing that its been that way since new. its from 2011. all ive noticed is on some hot days you smell a little gas around it. any suggestions?

Probe it with a piece of copper wire and see where it goes.

Mine has a hole there but it opens back into the tank. It is just used as an air vent into the expansion volume for the tank.

My tank has a vent tube also but no vapor recovery system.

i can see light thru it. its open to air.

That sounds bad. Every time you slosh the gas around it could dribble some out. Maybe plug it with a small sheet metal screw and see what happens?

It looks like kind of a ragged hole. Did someone punch a hole through there with a sharp tool?

The hole in my tank filler neck is neatly punched like OEM parts should be. My vent fitting goes into the expansion space.

yeah. its punched thru from the OUTSIDE. it looks factory. im thinking of putting a nearly-too-small screw in there so it still vents thru the threads. its been that way since new though. if i plugged it completely it wouldnt vent and then i wouldnt get gas at the carb.

also, to punch the hole the plastic would have to be off. makes me think its factory

Wait a minute is that where your gas cap goes? If so that is the vent for the gas tank. On the outside that you see daylight is there a connector on it or just a hole through the plastic?
Either way that is your gas tank vent. Just do not fill it was gas all the way up the neck.

yeah that is my filler neck. the hole is punched from outside air thru to the inside of the neck on the tank. no hose. just a hole to outside air
