Nope wrong,If you use your CABEZA and just think about how this all works, you would not say such things. "IF" the petcock is shutting off the fuel flow after the motor is shut off then that is not the cause. Don't take my word for it prove it to yourself's, shut the motor off disconnect the fuel hose from the carb and dump whatever fuel is in the line into a container, it will amount to less than one oz. Now take that container with the gas and bend the CARBs VENT hose up and pour that gas down into the carb bowl. That is not enough to overfill the carb bowl to have it pouring out into the intake. When the carb bowl is CONSIDERED full is when the gas level reachs the top of the CARB BOWL. Now that leaves the rest of the cavity of the carb above the float empty. That cavity has to fill and fill the VENT tubing as well for it to flood. If you look at most carbs due to the weight of the carb they are tilted a little towards the air filter side. So if it was flooding you would fine gas in the air tubing and maybe your air filter full of gas. Another thing IF it is running overly RICH and it is hard starting you will get fuel in the crankcase. To prove it take the Fuel Ratio Screw completly out and go and start your motor it will be hard to start because of to much fuel then go and check your oil, YEP gas smell. I just talked to JR and he had a better explanation than I did. A leaking float valve...of course, why didn't we think of that. Happens all the time. YA! YA! What you said I did mention this in post #32 Ride On! Clone  You are correct.
Alley has a great point, I didn't think of cranking the motor too much. Alley, why did you change your signature? First, I miss the Martian. Second, the Shadow is really creepy and now I won't sleep. No Luke the man came here asking for help, made it clear he isn't mechanical, stated his problem. At first the answers were on the line of trying to help, then it turned into a line of what might be, the same old the problem is it is Chinese (which BTW if that's all you can say then don't answer at all) oh no you're just imagining all of this and then whatever.
All the time some in their opinions started basically theories of what might or might be going on while all the time making it known that all of what he was saying was just in his mind and guess what he shut up, I guess he got tired of being made out a idiot by all the experts on engines.
Let me remind all that this "is" a Chinese scooter with a made by the thousands GY-6 engine that is nothing more than a lawn mower engine. There can and have been things happen that sometimes aren't the norm of engines and when one of these crazy things happen and the final answer of why it happened can be found it's something that we all can add to the list of "check" this if it happens again.
But being critical of someone asking for help isn't the way to help and since you like sayings Luke here is one, "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all" it goes along with one of my favorites, "treat others how you would like to be treated."
