took my carb off to do a jet change as I am going to put a uni air filter and a free flowing exhaust and seen where it states usually go up 2 sizes per mod . I took carb apart and now I'm really confused . the carb is a Deni pd24j and I took the pilot screw out to clean it and it looks fine . went to take out main jet(think its main jet only other screw there) it says 114 of it . however all the replacement jets are tiny in size and mine is larger then the pilot screw . do somwcarbs have different size (length) of jets ? Any suggestions on what to do or what size to start with .Stock the bike ran a little lean .

Well first we need to know what your bike is. Yes, they have different jets, We also need your engine code.

Look here for the motor type you have: Most motor shops will only have parts for the brand of scoots they sell and many only have the basics for them and also have to order parts. If the scoot came with a 114 main jet and it is running good no problems with that main jet and you add filter and exhaust free flow, I would get a 117.5 and a 120 main jet.

Just to make sure of the engine size you could of have 1p52qmj or a 157QMJ etc.. Some have a little more power than others. Yours has a little more power than the common 157qmj. But then again yours parts are not as easy to come by as the 157qmj either because it is not one of your common motors. So yes I would get what I said 117.5 or 118 if you can find it and a 120 and try them both. What you do not want it to have it run lean at wot. The 120 may be to much but you never know until you try it jets are a trial and error because it all depends on how much air it is sucking in and breathing and out it is letting the exhaust out, Not all like motors run the same. I'm using actually a modified stock air filter . I plugged up the stock top hole then strap down in the air box . using same snorkel . my main thing would be I can cut down the air by adding another sleeve . so go for 118 and if it runs lean then add another sleeve to reduce air and enrich it . sry guys a girl here trying to be a mechanic lol

Hey, but your doing it right, if to much air you can block off some if not enough open it a little. You got it BUD, all your trying to do is match the right amount of air to fuel or Visa Versa Alleyoop

Lb1p57qmj please tell why the engine model matters or is it simple some engines are better ? Chinese scoots are not like the car industry where the models are part specific. I need a Chevy part...or a Ford part...that's not how it is with scoots. Other than a few exceptions the parts are interchangeable. So the main thing you need to have when asking questions or ordering parts is the engine code. That is what this corner of the world uses to ID your scooter. A girl trying to be a mechanic?! Ride it for an hour, if the plug is dark or black it's too rich. If it's naked and just metal it's lean. If it's tan or light chocolate it's just right. Alley is a little more precise in his evaluation of the mixture via riding the bike, I'll let him explain if he feels the need. Rich
