Guess what.. It was the wonderful SNYA alarm box that was keeping the button start from working! Now I have a dead battery and need to charge it, then get the scooter running and check bulbs, etc.
I never realized that this thing would have had an alarm system or remote start. Apparently the previous owner didn't either. Crazy. Apparently when you remove the alarm system/remote start there are 2 wires you need to jumper on that connector so that someone can't just come up and kickstart the scoot. If you don't, they could kick start it and ride it into the sunset. time to look at the wiring diagram again!

I've checked all plugs (disconnecting and reconnecting) and they were all tight with no corrosion. I didn't find any other plugs that were not connected. I did find this black box that's around 2"x3" by about 1" tall up behind the headlights where the harness comes up and goes. It has a label that says SNYA and has 2 connectors coming out. One goes to a connector that's conected to the wiring harness and has around 7 or 8 wires on it, and the other connector has 2 wires that are going to this red round thing that says 'Speaker' on it. Out of that same SNYA box, there are 2 black wires... one goes to ground, and the other is just hanging out there not connected to anything. The jacket has been stripped like it use to connect to something, but I'm not finding where that goes, unless it also needs to connect to ground. Any thoughts? Looks like this scooter I bought comes with some kind of remote alarm/enable/disable system. Apparently that is what that SNYA box and speaker are for. Google is apparently my friend..  Anyone know how to remove this feature? I'd rather just get rid of it so I don't have to worry about it, especially since I don't have the key fob to control it.... I'm almost certain now that this is what is preventing the scooter from actually firing up with the start button.. |

Sounds like you have it under control,,,if the wire harness isn't messed with i say leave it alone,,,also if that open plug is to the sidestand switch i would say the two wires need to be connected to run the bike,,,either that or reinstall the switch if it has been taken off or just plug it in to the switch if it's just been unplugged,,,i knew a friend who used to pull one wire off of the stand switch on his bike as a poormans kill switch,,,if you didn't know you couldn't get it running if you had the keys,,,(it's kept his kids from riding it),,,i would also check the fuses,,,this might be the problem with the lights or the bulbs may have just blown,,,i'd be giving them the long look Does that 2 wire plug that goes to the kickstand switch need to be jumpered or left open to run? I'm going to go out and see if it actually has a kickstand switch.. |

First post!
I just bought a Velocity 50cc scooter yesterday I found on Craigslist for $100. It has a GY6 139qmb engine and is actually in really good condition. Has about 550 miles on it. It does have some scratched up panels and a small tear in the seat, but for $100 I thought it was a steal. It's pretty much the same as a Tao Tao VIP Champion 50cc scooter. Same body style, etc..
I bought my wife a Yamaha Vino Classic XC50 last year, and I ended up getting the bug and wanted one and I couldn't pass up a $100 scooter that ran.
The PO bought it off someone else and could not get it running, so he put some wires on the starter relay and more or less jumped it to run it. When I came to look at it, he did the same. Engine sounds really good.
Last night I started taking the panels off the scooter and checking connections, etc. I've not got up to the ignition area yet. Luckily, the wiring harness from what I can tell is unmolested. I removed the wires off the relay. All the connections look good, but there is one connection that is under the footrest area that does not seem to go to anything. It has 2 wires - black/white stripe and green. I've looked at the wiring diagram and those 2 wires should be connected to the CDI, kill switch, and the main switch, which I'm guessing is the iginition switch. That connector comes out and doesn't seem that it would really reach to anything.
Also as a side note, none of the lights seem to work at all. Neither did the tach, but when I turned the key to the run state, I did notice that the fuel indicator was working.
I'm going to do some tracing and checking today with my multimeter and get up in the front area to see if anything is disconnected around the iginition switch.
Since I'm new to this scooter, am I missing something obvious, or do I need to just keep looking? Should I just go ahead and get a new wiring harness?
