Guitarman, I was ready to try the gasoline idea, but I was all out of matches. I had to settle for cutting off the plastic cover with a hack saw instead. Under the cover I found a resettable fuse- part # RF16 900B. Here are the pics: Its 16V 900mA resettable fuse ( Wikipedia article) Manufacturer PDF for part.

I like this theory. I'll take it apart to be sure, and post a picture. Thanks!

I'd like to upload wiring diagram, but there is no way for me to create threads in the 'Wiring Diagrams' section. How do I go about doing this?

Thanks for the response, cyborg. I'm starting to suspect it's a fuse or a diode, but not sure. I was hoping that someone on here would have come across the same thing, but I haven't found anything yet in my searches online.
The scooter appears to have a a wiring harness to support an alarm/remote-start, but it appears that the alarm was removed. It's also possible that this piece could be related to the old alarm system...
I'm still holding out to see if anyone else has seen this part before.

While troubleshooting the electrical system on my Meitian MT50QT-2, I've found a white plastic doohickey at the front of the scooter. One of the wires appears to be connected back to the the ignition switch. The owners manual for this scooter has a wiring diagram, but the diagram doesn't match the actual wiring of the scooter, and doesn't show this part. Can anyone identify what this is?
