Howdy folks...I just got my 2008 Xingyue 260 back on the road yesterday and today....yup....back off the road. I went to start her up, she turned over a couple times and then, nothing...dead start button. SO, I looked around, checked the 4 fuses behind the glove box and they're good. It was time to get home so I tried jumping the solenoid and the starter turned but no start (no spark)....looked at the coil, touched it and HOT!!! Also, the previous owner (I just bought this 2 weeks ago) had the coil zip tied to the frame rail meaning the mounting ears weren't grounded. There was however, a green wire attached to the mounting ear, running back to the swing arm (where the battery is grounded too) that was missing a lot of insulation. I saw it before, but figured the moron had stripped it or something. It was a ground so I didn't worry. Anyways, I noticed that frayed ground wire was very hot as well. I guess the coil shorted out. Anyways, I left the ignition key on and few minutes later the coil popped and spewed out goo and I turned the key off immediately. Anyways, I am scared now because the start button does nothing and I've got a fried coil. Do you think the coil being shorted/fried would make my starter switch not work? I am scared this may end up being an electrical nightmare. I don't know where to start and I am not good with electrical. I am great with the mechanical stuff...but this-is beyond me. I knew I was buying a basket case. It was kid owned so who knows what he did or didn't do...but it was cheap. Unfortunately it's my only motorized transport so I'm gonna be riding a bicycle to work until I get it going again. Any ideas? I KNOW I need a coil, what else should I be looking for? Thanks in advance for any advice
