I was on a similar situation with my scooter when I was trying to figure out a short somewhere, at the end after digging around with the multimeter, I ended up doing my own harness from scratch with quality 12g cable, no more electrical gremlins since.

Keeway is a good brand, one of the best among the Chinese ones, there are lots of those around here in Costa Rica.
