I have been asked by the owner of a ATV type go-cart with a GY6 engine to help him fix it. He replaced the coil and did not have spark. Is there any difference in the coil that a dc DCI system would use v.s. an AC DCI it seems like the AC systems deliver 50 volts to the coil and DC only 12 volts. Seems like starting with 50 bolts and running through the coil would have a lot higher output voltage all things being equal.
So I am asking if there’s a possiblity that I need a different coil than the one he installed? I can feel an electrical shock if I hold the plug and try to start it, but I do not see a spark if I ground the plug. I am a GY6 novice but I know on small lawn and garden engines a bright hot blue spark is what is needed.
The old coil had a bad connection at one of the 2 male terminals on the coil. The female terminal was bad and had to be replaced I also found over heated melted terminal blocks in the connection box and I direct wired those
If it is not the coil what else might I check for weak spark?? I hope someone has an idea for me Thanks Spit
