I have to wait a week or so to check it out and try; I'm out of town. thanks for the quick reply. When I took the carb apart previously, I pulled the jets completely out, cleaned, and replaced. There was scale building up around one of them... identified as "jet holder, needle" (#17) in this parts blowup. www.cmsnl.com/honda-ch150-elite-150-1987-usa_model928/partslist/E++17.htmlAlso, to 'break thru' any sludge, I took apart a piece of network wire, giving me a tiny gauge of wire to feed into the ports. Is it possible I now have jammed something closed? I have a can of carb dip, but I don't want to put the whole unit in there, and I don't want to take off the diaphragm or bystarter. If I gotta...I gotta... but I'd rather not. All these internal items screwed down to the stop, with the exception of the one with the pin that actually goes through the body. I counted the turns out, and turned it back in the same number of turns... (Item #7 in the blowup) Thanks again~

brand new here on the board..
I am at my wits end. I picked up a 85 CH150 Elite, and have slowly been working on it. It is to the point now where it starts beautifully and idles, until it warms up. Then it dies...
Granted, I made some changes:
1. I bought a new carb off ebay, and it's throat is a bit larger than the stock. I had to grind some of the rubber down on the boot that connects to the block. It is a good snug fit, and I don't have any leaks from it; I can spray ether all around it and the engine doesn't race.
2. the new carb was also missing the vacuum port for the petcock. So, I had to tee in another line.
3. the honda fuel system did not have a filter?! I inserted a filter and manual shutoff mid-line. Note: the stock fuel line was a 3/8" line, and the filter and shutoff is a 1/4". I can see fuel in the line and filter, but it does not fill the line completely; Air remains in the 1/4" line. It is all conveniently routed in behind my access panel, so I can close my shutoff and drain my bowl for longer storage.
4. During my troubleshooting, I realized I had 4yr old gas. I drained the tank, cleaned the carb, and added new gas, with an overdose of seafoam.
It starts perfectly, and idles high during warm up. Once the idle starts dropping down, it continues to drop until it stalls.
If I start twisting in the idle screw, the beast wont start. Once it warms up, it pretty much wont start at all!.
I thought my changes might have caused problems, but why would it start perfectly?!
Help, please!
