im trying to figure what is wrong then? The guy in the video you had posted mentioned something about as the engine is used the timing chain can "stretch" since this machine is was bought used from someone could it have been used to to point where the chain is so stretched it is still loose even with the tensioner fully extended?

It was on the guide.. I had moved it aside to take picture of the sprocket in the back there

This is of the sprocket in the engine, I see it has 2 row a of teeth but ne is like half hidden. Is this spossed to be like this? Attachments:

Ok so I took off the head and inspected the teeth on both the gear in the back and the cam up front. None of the teeth seem rounded or worn down. The chain guide seems to be bent down from the tensioner and where the tensioner contact the guide it has made a indent into it which is kinda off centered to one side. I tried my best to get the picture show the indent... and. I will put 1 or 2 more pictures in posts below so you can kinda see what I am. Attachments:

Oh OK yeah I can adjust it but it automatically springs back out, that's what is spossed to so right? So if its all the way out but chain still coming off is it the chain guards then?

Ok so I went and pulled off the tensioner to see if it would even move and it does not. It also seems stuck fully extended. Does this mean it is shot? When I turn the screw it doesn't move at all. Also looks like there could be a small like imprint into the guide in the shape of the tensioner if that would affect anything. I've attached a picture of the tensioner so you guys know what I'm talking about it appears fully extended. Attachments:

We bought a whole new gasket set for the head when we bought the buggy, although we did not replace the head, we did replace the piston and oil rings and we also had bought the section of the head that holds the valves to replace the one on there but the spark plugs hole got stripped so we are now using the old one which we cleaned up very well until we fix the issue with the new one.

Ok, also, sorry for forgetting to put this all into one reply, any idea where i could order new chain guard and a new tensioner if the one on there is shot? But is there a good chance the tension was just shaken around and isn't working right due to hitting a huge rock at about 25 MPH i'd say. idk it was going downhill, although i didn't put any throttle into it, haha, i feel quite stupid a hit a rock in the first place.

Also, yeah ill look at ordering a new chain guide, but think mine would work? i could take a picture and try to post tomorrow if that would help.

ok, yeah i see what it is talking about in the video with the tensioner, ill adjust that in the morning and get back to you guys. Also, before it came off again this time around it was needing a small bit of starting fluid to start, which i know it shouldn't, but then would run but won't idle, like the tires end up being turned in order for it to stay running, Any ideas on that? i have already fully cleaned the carb. also it felt like it had like 1/2 or the power it did before i had crashed it, could the valves need to be adjusted? if so how would and do that and what tools would be needed?

I did look at the guides, and not 100% sure if what i saw was the tensioner, one guide has a small spot where it looks as if the chain had grinded it down alttle, not sure if that would cause my problem, but im sure buying a new guilde wouln't be expensive right? And ill check out that video now Alleyoop, thanks for the quick replys!

Hey, I have a 150cc GY6 157FM engine, it is not on a scooter and i dont plan to have it on one, its currently on a mini-buggy and the only places i can find about this engine are for scooters.
So, i had it running took it out and was riding or offroad and what not, brakes failed and i crash into quite a big boulder. Ran fine for alittle bit after that then while riding it the timing chain just came off, took off the head, put it back on, started it up and ran for about 30 seconds and it came off again, i then let it sit for a couple months because my life got busy, took it apart again put chain back on and it started up and it ran for about 30 mins and timing chain just came off again. I am puzzled on what is cuasing this, i assume i jolted something around when i crashed it and I new to this and don't know what to do, any help would be appreciated.
