Are you planning to attend the 2013 Scooting the Ozarks Rally, September 11-14, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas? More information on the STO Forum. Just a few reminders before time runs out! You have only a week left to pre-register for the rally for $50. After August 31 you will have to wait and register at the rally for $60. There is a home Razorback football game on the 14th, so we recommend that you make hotel reservations if you plan to stay over the weekend. Rally shirts will not be available at the rally, you must order them yourself from CafePress. It usually takes about a week to get your order. Our ride coordinator has maps and turn-by-turn instructions for the long ride and the poker run on the forum. There are also maps for self-guided rides. He does not plan to provide printed maps for the optional rides, so please check out the rides on the forum and print out your maps. Looking forward to good weather (AccuWeather.com is forecasting sunshine all that week!), and lots of great riding at the rally. See you then!

Five weeks until STO! If you plan to attend and haven't already, please pre-register. This will give our rally coordinator, and the food vendor, a more accurate count for how many will be eating at the Fish Fry and Barbecue. There is a home AR Razorbacks vs. Southern Miss Golden Eagles football game Sept. 14 so we recommend making hotel reservations early as they are already booking up for the weekend. www.scoottheozarks.proboards.com/

Getting closer to rally time! If you're attending, don't forget to mail in your registration and make your hotel reservation. A police escorted parade through downtown has been added to the agenda for this year. Should be lots of fun. Hope to see you in Eureka Springs in September!

The Fifth Annual Scooting the Ozarks Rally was another great rally. Over 60 people attended from 17 states and Canada. 75% rode their bikes in, including two riders from California and one from Ontario. Wednesday we had great riding weather for self-formed groups. Everyone was free to choose where, and with whom, to ride. That evening there was a Welcome Dessert Reception in the breakfast room of the Comfort Inn. We all enjoyed great pie and soft drinks or coffee, and lots of visiting with friends old and new. Thursday was the long guided ride. Five groups headed out on a ride of about 200 miles. (For safety, groups are limited to a maximum of 10 bikes at STO.) Thursday evening we gathered for a group photo, then again entered the breakfast room, this time for pizza. A Safe Ride Seminar with Jean Bartlow followed for those who wanted to attend. Friday was the poker run and a guided small scoot ride. Clouds had come in and we had light rain off and on Friday. Karaoke in the breakfast room on Friday evening was hilariously funny at times. Rack, Eric and EuGene, along with volunteers from the audience, were great entertainment. We had fun with the Show and Shine in light rain Saturday. Following the Show and Shine was the barbecue. Poker Run and S & S prizes were awarded, along with more door prizes. Following was a brief discussion about STO 2013. Dates for the next rally were tentatively set for Sept. 18-21, 2013. I’ve posted photos and a brief video here: Photos and videos from others who attended can be found here: www.scoottheozarks.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=report&action=display&thread=994

With the soaring temps we have been having, and more hot weather ahead, I'm really looking forward to Scooting the Ozarks in September, when it should be cooler. The STO ride coordinator has some great routes mapped out for us. Check them out on the forum. The host hotel is giving STO attendees a great discount off their regular rates, but reservations must be made by AUG.12 to get the discount. Deadline to pre-register for the rally, and save $10, is Aug. 31.

Take advantage of STO’s “early bird registration” and mail yours before March 1, when registration goes up $10.
Also reserve your room early while you still have a choice of room type. There will be a MAJOR Razorback football game on Saturday, Sept. 15 so rooms may be hard to find for Friday and Saturday if you don’t make a reservation early. You must reserve by phone and mention STO to get the special room rates at the host hotel.

Happy New Year! Registration for STO 2012 is now open. Get that new calendar out and add the Scooting the Ozarks Rally to your plans for 2012. STO welcomes all scooter riders, and is a “riders rally”, so you can expect opportunities to ride in the Ozark twisties each day of the rally.

The results are in! Surveys were sent to those who attended STO 2011 and the answers have been posted. STO 2012 is already taking shape, with some suggestions from the survey being incorporated into the new agenda. Visit the forum www.scoottheozarks.proboards.com to check out the survey results and the evolving agenda. Add your suggestions and volunteer to help with organizing a great rally. I have found that being involved with the planning and helping with the activities at the rally are part of the fun of Scooting the Ozarks. Planning and preparation for activities are done well in advance so that during the rally volunteers are free most of the time to just have fun.

You can see photos from STO 2011 here. Forecast for the rally was for rain every day, so attendance was not quite as high as expected. 85 people attended with 71 bikes. First day of the rally there were a few scattered light showers, not a washout, so we did get some riding in the first day, followed by the welcome dinner. Second day, Thursday started out cool, in the 50s, and cloudy but not raining. 33 riders started out on the 3-State Tour in 4 groups. (All group rides at STO are divided into groups of 10 or less.) We stayed dry, but temps didn't get over the mid 60s. At Pizza Night everyone had all the pizza they wanted. Third day was the poker run. Still cloudy and cool, not raining. Last day, Saturday was to start with the Show and Shine. Light rain started, and didn't look like it would end soon, so it was decided we would have more of a "Show and Drip". You could enter your bike "as-is" without cleaning and shining, as it would be sitting in the rain. Not many entered, but there were entries in all the categories. After the S & S was the barbecue, presenting the awards and giving out door prizes. We all managed to fit into the breakfast room for this and stayed dry. Everyone seemed to have a great time, and most said they would return next year. Saturday was the only day that the rain was a problem (there was heavy rain that afternoon). It's impossible to predict what the weather will be as far in advance as a rally must be scheduled. I personally had a great time, and consider the rally a success. Hope more can attend next year.
