I ride a Helix with a TowPac MiniTrike kit. Been riding it for over 5 years and love it. Was always afraid I'd drop a bike (have twisted my knee several times in the past so I'm never sure when it will fail me), or loose control in the loose gravel we frequently have on the roads here. So I never rode any distance on a scoot before getting the kit. Rode for 27 years as passenger with my husband on motorcycles and scooters before getting my own. We still ride together, just on separate scooters.
At STO 2008, my husband rode an 1100 V-Star with a TowPac InstaTrike kit. Before STO 2009, he traded the V-Star for a Burgman 650 and kept the kit. TowPac's official stand is that you cannnot put an InstaTrike kit on a scooter. InstaTrike is for motorcycles, MiniTrike is for scooters.
So what to do when you have already paid over $3000 for a kit? Spend another $300 for a bracket kit to install a MiniTrike kit on a Burgman 650, and use it to attach the InstaTrike kit to the Burg. The InstaTrike kit frame lacked 4 holes for attaching brackets, otherwise everything worked fine. Rather than drilling 4 holes in the solid 1" square metal kit frame, and weakening it, he welded the brackets on instead. He has everything else bolted tight, everything is lined up, and he's put over 100 miles on it. Works fine, is solid and safe.
Now who says you can't put an InstaTrike kit on a Burgman 650?
p.s. For those not familiar with these products, they bolt onto a motorcycle or scooter, giving you the stability of a trike. The rear wheel of the bike continues to be the drive wheel, so you actually have 4 wheels. The InstaTrike has a receiver hitch and is easily removed and reinstalled. The MiniTrike lacks the receiver hitch, making it lighter weight, but harder to remove.

May News: Not to much to report this month as most of the planning is in place and has already been posted. We will be having our welcome dinner @ Forest Hill. Lou talked to the Manager and he is going to give us the preferred customer price of $10.89. Remember, EVERYONE who is Pre-Registered & attending STO 2010 has a chance to win the NEW 2009 Red Kymko Agility Lanny is bringing up from Lanny’s Cycle World. Pre-register before September 1. We have eight vendors lined up so far for STO 2010. STO 2010 Rally shirts are now available from STO's Store. You can order on-line or by phone from CafePress. They accept credit cards or paypal.

If you like riding the twisties, you will love STO, September 15-18, 2010 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. STO welcomes riders of all scooters, maxis to mopeds. STO has an agenda full of rides, good food, vendors, poker run, DJ Dance/Karaoke, and more. STO will be giving away an Agility 125 to someone who pre-registers for the rally before Sept.1 and is present at the drawing.
STO’s host hotel is Travelers Inn. As of Monday, April 5, they only had 14 rooms left. When Travelers is full, you can book a room at the Red Carpet Inn (formerly Wagner Inn) and get the same rally rate as the Travelers. Jerry also owns this motel. Lou (Rally Coordinator Louis Larson) and I personally inspected this motel last year when we were in Eureka & found it to be a very nice, clean place. There are MANY motels in Eureka Springs, but it is more fun to stay where the action is!
Lou has invited the local chapter of the CMA (Christian Motorcycle Assn.) to STO. They are going to set up a Hospitality Tent, and will bless your scoot for a safe rally, if you want. They have also offered to lead rides if needed.
This will be the third year for STO, and it gets better every year. Come join the fun!
