Stock Tranny Ratio By oldscootcoot (Read 1,064 times)

Anybody got a clue as to the stock gearing on a 150cc long case scoot with 12" wheels?
Would like to raise the ratio(lower numerically) but don't want to tear the scoot down
and have it out of service while the new gear set is in transit.

Last time I heard the the phrase, stock tranny, it was Bashan telling us about a one night stand he had on Wall Street.

I would think Alley would have a handle on that. He has a GY6 that's been worked and he swapped and is swapping gears even as we speak.

The motor in my 150 short case GY6 157QMJ came with 13/40 gears, also on another forum a guy with a regular scoot gy6 157QMJ motor had stock gears of 13/40 and he put in 15/37. I currently have 16/37 and am going to put in 18/36 the tallest gears I could find. I already have the reduction gear pressed on the 18 tooth counter shaft just to cold to be working in the unheated garage swapping the 16/37 out and putting in the 18/36 gears. But as soon as the temps come up to where it is bearable I will put them in.

Thanks for your input Alley. The 16/37 set is what I had my eye on. That's coming down .7 of a point numerically, may consider a set with more of a .5 drop. I ride only on the coastal flats so hill climbing(except bridges) isn't an issue. What are your thoughts?

BTW am replacing my 835/20 belt with an 842/20. Was not getting the last 4-5mm of my 115mm vari. The rear sheave also is held somewhat open by the 835, hoping to also get a lower ratio on the bottom end with the 842 belt. Ever tried this?

That was a speed trick on the Eagle Carino, Lance Milan, Motorino Riviera. The 835 belt was installed stock as a speed limiter. Changing to the 842 gave more top speed.

All things remaining equal, would changing my belt to an 842 give my scoot more top speed? I have the 115 variator.

You have to do the marker trick on the variator. You put a line on the variator, go out and do a run and see if the line gets wiped out. If there's any left then a slightly longer belt will give you more top speed.

With current gear ratio what rpm is she running at 55mph?
what size wheels?

I have my trike setup to not run high rpms. It will run 50mph at 5100-5200 rpms(just about half throttle) at 60mph 6100-6200 rpms at 70mph it runs little over 7K so it runs 10mph faster for every 10K rpms. The trike came with 13 front and 10 rear wheels I have put changed out the rear TIRES to 3" taller ones. So my Trike cruises at very low RPMS once I get it up to speed then I back off the throttle and it stays at the speed i brought it up to.
