Hello folks. I am new to the forum and to scoots in general. Just want to say that you all have already been hugely helpful. I did not do my due diligence before buying and, boy, am I paying for it now! Bought a 2008 MP-050B-JCL with 5900 on the clock. As speedo is in mph, assuming that's 5900 miles. The previous owner had cut off the muffler 1 inch from muffler inlet. It was retained and included. Reinstalling it revealed manifold gasket leak. I could go on, but you get the idea. I have owned it 10 days now and feel like I have known this QMB-139 for years! Can strip covers in about 5 minutes now!
Anyway, glad I found you all! Thanks for all the help, past and future!!

Well 5,900 miles is a good start. Did you replace the exhaust gasket? Many of the vendors at the top carry them. Welcome to the gang. BTW ignore Luke. He had no luck with a Chinese 50 and will be jealous of your successes.

Welcome aboard! With some help from the more experienced guys here, you'll have your scooter up and running by the weekend.
My biggest advice to you right now is to proactively set up a member block on LUKE. Your overall quality of life will will improve by doing so. This pretty much sums up what he posts:

Welcome McGyvre, there are no noobs here, just some folks are more recent than others. We all had to thrash and flail with our scoots at first. Come to think of it, we still do. If you need anything shoot me, JR, or Alley a PM. Have fun and there are no stupid question.

Hey Lantern! A couple of quick thoughts. Your 2008 Jonway looks a lot like mine, but I have no idea what I actually have. The guy I bought it from knew nothing except he seemed certain it was a 2008 and had no paperwork for it. I have a PM in to Alley about how to use my numbers to see what I have. The previous owners jacked it up pretty good, but it runs well. With all the info here, I feel like I have a small block Chevy. By that I mean that there are so many people and so many scoots using the same or similar engines and parts are plentiful. Heck, I've learned enough about these 50's I am thinking about buying up tired or seemingly dead ones and fix 'em up for a small stipend. I did say there were 2 things, didn't I? I moved to NC about a year ago from Brighton MI and I have to tell you, I don't miss it a bit. Between the mess Jennifer Granholm made of the economy, the mess Kwami made of Detroit and all that friggin' snow, I am happy to be gone! I have thoroughly enjoyed BOTH of our snowfalls this year. Hope you get some riding weather soon!

the scoot pic in my sig is the top one in my sig. the jonway is probably as messed up as yours. pulled from the junk after a wreck and after it sat a year ON ITS SIDE IN THE DIRT. it actually had roots growing in the cvt. but had spark & started right up without even a carb cleaning. theres many that look like mine. the body style is called a sunny. you can get new body panels that way. if you need cheap parts you can get em from scrappydog scooters. just look for em on google. u can also pm me if u need help and ill try to the best of my ability! good to have you here!
