So I rebuilt my motor over a month and a half ago. I've put 800+ miles on it since and now I'm leaking oil something fierce. I'm getting oil all over the under carriage and the rear break. I installed the gaskets and used rtv sealant. What gives? Short of replacing my motor gaskets, is there something else I can do?
Also, I can't seem to find a gasket kit for my 1P57QMJ. Anyone? Bueller?

did you wipe it down and find the leak?,,,pinpoint the area where its coming from? maybe if your lucky it's the valve cover gasket and the oil is just getting blown all over the place

I think the 157qmj gasket kit will fit on the 1p57qmj motor the difference on those motors is the head and top end. Just get the gasket kit for the size case you have the long case or the short case. Now they do have two sizes of long case one is for the 16" wheel scoots which are a little longer than you regular long case.

Bueller here! Alley is spot on. Cyborg knows these things because he has a crank case. Did you retorque the case bolts after a few runs? I always do. I just don't put the plastic back on until....well never. That aluminum is soft and the heat and cooling changes the bolt set. Now, I'm not insulting your intelligence but I've seen the following: There are three spots that oil can come out of under the engine besides the gasket. Is your screen plug tight and is the rubber seal on it OK? How about the 17mm bolt on the left side of the engine? Does your dipstick still have the o-ring on it? Apart from that you probably have a hose off of the valve cover or the right side of the upper engine case that is the breather. It usually runs to the airbox, if it fell off it may be oozing oil underneath. I know you rebuilt the engine so you're aware of these things. I say them for tutorial purposes. One more thing, what color RTV did you use?

I'll check the screen oring in am. RTV was clear. |

Have you used the clear before? The temperature parameters are Ok but it is not recommended for engine gasket applications. It's a common mistake and you can read about it right here.

So I have a follow up to my leaking oil. I think I may have found my answer. When I opened up the air box I discovered some oil that wasn't there just a couple weeks ago.  The black blob you see was very thick and sticky. It may have been sealant that was softened by contact with oil. When I opened up the compartment under the metal plate, this is what I saw. Notice how high up the compartment the oil either achieved or sloshed around in there. Given the amount of oil I have on my bike, I'm guessing it was close to full.   With some further investigating, I removed the air box fron the scoot and low and behold the rubber boot on the exit port of the compartment was torn and I could feel it covered in oil. (Sorry about picture quality)   My theory is that when I changed the oil a couple weeks ago (I posted about this) I overfilled the crank case. The excess oil exited through the ventallation tube to the air box where it accumulated and eventually ate through the high quality chinese rubber boot. Anyone ever experience anything similar to this? |

A little oil in that airbox compartment is normal. That was abnormal. But so are you. I agree with you and that concerns me very much. I believe your theory of Martians taking over our brains is wrong but you overfilling your crankcase is correct. The airbox is supposed to pull vapor off the case but I just don't like that. I use a hose like Alley (wanted to add some credibility) by running the breather up hill a ways and putting a filter on it, preferably menthol. But you must plug the airbox hole, no induction leaks young man...and clean your room! Correct everything and then expel the Martians! Have Alley and JR got done with the Brazil guy's bike? Gaahd that was embarassing! The Great and Powerful Stinky

Looks like I haven't completely solved my oil leaking problem. I had to go out of town for a few days and when i got back I have a pretty good amount of clean oil pooled up under my scoot. Ahhhhhh! Is this bad boy worth it?

That gets to me that your having a lot of problems with a newer scoot. Glad you have the stinky helping you and some senior people. Good luck and will look at your posts later. Really gets under my skin something so new giving you major problems. mine had an oil leak from day one. the assembler rolled the lip of the crank seal over and it leaked oil constantly into the cvt. just recently fixed it with a new seal. no leaks now but some just have little problems right from the factory. |

Glad to hear you got that oil leak under control lantern scooter. Fixing fixing the oil leak will help keep out dirt and air getting into your engine that would eventualy destroy it.

I had a ferocious leak on my 1P57QMJ engine for a couple of years. Finally I took off the plastic fan shroud, cleaned every thing off and started it. You can only let it run for a short time like that but if the oil leak is that bad, you'll see where it's dripping from. As I've posted ad nauseum I had cracked the head when I overtightened the small bolts adjacent to the cam tunnel.  I had to replace the head and the head gasket for a laughable $50. But I digress. Baring the engine and looking for the source of the leak is the only definitive way to find it unless you're lucky and can find it without removing the shroud. |

It is a 2008 that 128 miles on it when I bought it used in November. It has been nothing but trouble since I bought it. Really sucks to cause I love the thing to death. |

That sucks! My motor had no leaks until after I blew the rod bearing and replaced the whole crank. It's obviously something I did wrong when I reassembled the motor. In fact I am certain it is the right side case gasket between the crank case and the starter clutch housing. I checked my bolts last night and a few of them were a not quite snug. I tightened the up and the leaking rate decreased. Need to get a new gasket in there ASAP. |
