Continuity tests to see if a circuit, wire, or metal component will pass a small electric current between the probes. Under 60 ohms is considered a good circuit etc. and will produce an audible tone. A bad circuit that will not adequately pass the current will not produce a tone and may show OL, or Over Limit. Shuttle to this screen:
For example, if you wanted to check the CDI ground wire to frame, current direction does not matter with continuity:
Resistance measures the ohms that a circuit produces:
If you wanted to test the same circuit for ohms:
Now set your multi for diodes, it should measure voltage going one direction but not the other. That is a normal diode:
DC Volts, touch the red to the wire or terminal you want to test and ground the other. :
Same with the AC:
