I still would not mind having a old style manual transmission scooter. 2 stroke of course.

The "Clean Air" squad is closing in. No less than Kevin Cameron, Tech Guru at Cycle World, has predicted the demise of manual transmissions. In an age of tightening regulations the onboard computers will have to regulate all aspects of vehicle operations, especially shift points taking the human out of the equation. I'm glad I won't be around when it happens but it will. Honda's DCT is the beginning of the end for manual boxes in motorcycles. Sigh.

About 20 some years ago I was about ready to build a scooter with a 2t snowmobile engine. If I was in a little better shape I would still consider it. Take a mid sized engine complete with the transmission, clutch to a jack shaft and chain drive. Flat floor board, a tub for engine housing as in the 50's scooters. Vespa type front cowl, motorcycle front shocks. Some where around 60/100 hp, weight in the 400lb range. 12" or 13" rims. Every thing a modern scooter lacks. Of course a frame mounter engine with decent rear suspension. With a tub you are able to tip it off to service the engine instead of taking off all the crap plastic piece by piece. The majesty to take all the crap plastic off is at least a couple hours, (front and back).
