After bemoaning the long Winter I thought you should see what it looks like here in the summer. I should have spoken better at the end because the Bashan is running like a Swiss watch. I made it sound like it wasn't.

That reservoir looks to be pretty high in the hills there. It always looks so nice up north in the spring and summer but I just can't get the snow and ice crap out of my head.

Trust me, I hate the winters here too. We're only now getting some decent weather. It was near 80 yesterday after hovering around 50 most of May. If it wasn't chilly, it was raining. If it got even a little warm, it was windy making it feel cooler. Even the locals thought the weather stunk. It looks pretty now but the trees only got their leaves a couple of weeks ago.

What's the difference between Buffalo NY and yogurt? Yogurt has an active culture. I know Pedro...I KNOW! I just thought maybe everybody on this side of the planet needs to hear that. It's not a joke, it's actually true. Look it up, anywhere but Buffalo, that's right because there's no active....well you know.

I had some friends on the east coast when I was in college and I drove through Pennsylvania and then New York many times from Ohio to give them a lift to school or visit or whatever. What always amazed me was how unbelievably diverse the countryside was through New York. You'd go from a flatland to soaring mountains before you realized what was going on. You'd look up and say "when the hell did THAT pop up!?" Beautiful part of the country.
Having said that, Jack and I have talked about how you can start to take things for granted here in the south. I live at the base of Oak Mountain and Jack lives at the base of Petit Jean Mountain. Every once in a while you look up and say "my god, that thing is always there staring at me! I need to go ride it!"....and we do.....not as much as we should...but we do. There's huge mountains here in the south but the rivers are jaw dropping. Wide, then tapering down to rapids, then back to a 1/2 mile or more wide....beautiful....serene....sometimes swollen and angry....they can be frightening.
Here in Bama there is one area that just fascinates me...Little River Canyon. It is the deepest canyon east of the Mississippi. But it is on TOP of Lookout Mountain which is staggeringly beautiful to begin with. But for some incomprehensible geological anomaly this canyon is up in the clouds. Maybe I wax poetically here but you would just have to ride this area on a motorcycle to appreciate what I'm saying. You have to concentrate to keep your bike on the road because of the twisties and the riveting scenery. Here is just one shot of Little River, I rode it in the fall and it looked just like this:
Let's not forget the summer:
There's vistas like this all over our country, we need to get out there and ride 'em while you can kids, ride 'em while you can. Rich

Funny you should say that Pedro, there's a 10 mile stretch, on my commute, that's between Winterboro and Childersburg that winds through some pasture land, hills, past Desoto Caverns, and some cotton fields. Yesterday I looked to the right while humming along on the SYM and the trees were appearing and fading into the hills on the right and on the left were flat lands stretching out for miles. Just by chance there wasn't another soul on the road. I thought "I should be getting charged for this but it's free....absolutely free"....I couldn't quit grinning. Rich
