I've had a Jonway YY250T for a couple of years now. Generally it's been a good bike for me other than the normal Chinese issues (clock runs slow, radio sucks - I disconnected it, speedometer is off, fuel gauge doesn't work,...) When I started it this Spring, the starter "lagged" when I turned the key. Everytime I start the scoot, the started hesitates before turning over. I haven't had a problem getting it started but I'm afraid I could end up stranded. Any ideas what could be going on?
Thanks - Dave

Check your battery with a multi while the bike is off, you should get 12v DC and some change. Then, start the bike and give it some RPMs, you should read 13.5v DC+. If you're not getting those values the battery might not be hot enough to push past that first compression stroke.

I'd also check my starter button. You might not be getting good clean contact from it and that could be causing it.

Touch both terminals on the Solenoid if it still does the same thing then it is either weak battery bad ground from the battery to the frame or the starter is going. Now if you have a car then use the cars battery to test the starter, hook up the positive cable from the cars battery to the starters terminal and just hold the NEG cable from the cars battery and touch the motor case. If it spins your starter good then you know YOUR SCOOT battery is going south. Alleyoop

Could be the starter solenoid as well.

If touching the Two Terminals on the SOLENOID and it acts the same way it is not his SOLENOID its either a bad ground, battery or starter. Alleyoop
