2011 Jonway YY250T with a Helix 244cc. The bike will start and run in idle but die when I give it gas. Replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump - didn't help. Without buying a new carb in hopes that that'll fix it, what can I do to check the carb to see if that's the real problem? Thanks.

I have a Jonway YY250T with a battery/charging problem that I’m fighting to isolate. When I turn the key to start, I get nothing. Not even a solenoid buzz. I will get a flasher click on and off if I forget to turn the turn signal off but that’s it – no lights, horn or anything else. I carry a little booster battery with me and the bike will start very easily every time I use it. But I have to use it every time I start the bike. I replaced the battery last year and it worked for a while but got very tired at the end of the summer. I jumped an ammeter between the battery and the positive cable and didn’t see any obvious drain on the battery when the bike was not running. I removed the negative cable from the battery while it was running to check alternator output and it ran fine. I do have a problem with the clock running slow – loses about 5 minutes a day. And my fuel indicator quit working. I cut a hole in the plastic over the gas tank to get the float out but can’t because of the frame is in the way. I disconnect the radio mainly because it wouldn’t turn off on occasion when I turned the bike off. I can’t think of anything else to try. Any ideas?
Thanks - Dave

I've had a Jonway YY250T for a couple of years now. Generally it's been a good bike for me other than the normal Chinese issues (clock runs slow, radio sucks - I disconnected it, speedometer is off, fuel gauge doesn't work,...) When I started it this Spring, the starter "lagged" when I turned the key. Everytime I start the scoot, the started hesitates before turning over. I haven't had a problem getting it started but I'm afraid I could end up stranded. Any ideas what could be going on?
Thanks - Dave

How do I remove the gas tank from my 2011 YY250T? Need to fix the float but can't get to it because of where the tank is...
Thanks

How do I get to the gas tank on my 250 scoot? My gas gauge quit working and I suspect the float is malfunctioning. Had that happen on a 150 that I own. Thanks.

Where in the heck in the starter on my YY250T Scoot! My solenoid will run until I kill the battery but the starter won't kick in - I thought I'd try knocking the starter to see if it'll kick but either can't find it (I might have) or don't know what it looks like. Thanks - Dave

Thanks to all for the responses! As I'm new to this site, I'm pretty impressed with all the help...
bobf: The scoot has the 244 engine, supposedly a Helix clone. And, of course, the scooter is a Reflex clone. I have service manual for both the Helix and Reflex. No help with troubleshooting my problem.
That's exactly how I set the idle. Learned that from a motorcycle-owning brother.
kz1000st: I did check the fuel pump by disconnecting and cranking the engine. I'd get a intermittent spurt about 2 to 3 inches which is what I expected. Wouldn't that rule out the fuel pump? Is there a spec that I can measure with a vacuum gauge (like the old cars)?
I've also heard that it could be the carb - bad float or something. Don't know much about carbs - does that make sense?
I also found out after I bought the scoot that it isn't really new - it's a 2011 model - meaning that it probably sat in a warehouse for a couple of years. Could this cause problems that need attention?

I bought a new YY250T 3 month's ago. Last week it started acting up by stalling when I stopped. When I got it started, I had to "pump the throttle" to get enough revs to sputter the 6 blocks home. After a holiday weekend out of town, I couldn't get it to start. I checked fuses, spark at the plug, fuel filter and fuel pump. All seem to be working fine. I removed the gas (I use 92 octane) and replaced it with fresh. I sprayed carb cleaner and got it to run for about 5 minutes, had to "pump the throttle" to get it to rev higher than idle (about 1800 rpm's) then it stalled. Won't start again. Any ideas where I should go next?
