I have a Jonway YY250T with a battery/charging problem that I’m fighting to isolate. When I turn the key to start, I get nothing. Not even a solenoid buzz. I will get a flasher click on and off if I forget to turn the turn signal off but that’s it – no lights, horn or anything else. I carry a little booster battery with me and the bike will start very easily every time I use it. But I have to use it every time I start the bike. I replaced the battery last year and it worked for a while but got very tired at the end of the summer. I jumped an ammeter between the battery and the positive cable and didn’t see any obvious drain on the battery when the bike was not running. I removed the negative cable from the battery while it was running to check alternator output and it ran fine. I do have a problem with the clock running slow – loses about 5 minutes a day. And my fuel indicator quit working. I cut a hole in the plastic over the gas tank to get the float out but can’t because of the frame is in the way. I disconnect the radio mainly because it wouldn’t turn off on occasion when I turned the bike off. I can’t think of anything else to try. Any ideas?
Thanks - Dave

You have done every thing but check to see if the system is charging your battery. So with your multi meter check the battery before starting it, it should register 12.5-12.7 if lower than that the battery has a problem. Now start the motor and take the multi meter and put it on dc and connect the red lead to the postive and the black lead to the neg of the battery. See what it registers, now rev the motor up and if the charging system is charging it should resiter 13+ volts on the meter if not then you have a problem with the charging system. It could be the R/R or the STATOR one of the two. So get back with those tests and if the battery is not being charged then you can test the STATOR to see if it is feeding the STATOR voltage for it to convert to DC and charge the battery if not then you know the R/R is bad.
