Rather than continue the old thread, I decided to start a new one for my new scoot. Looking at the tag for the engine, it is listed as a 1P39QMB. Not sure what that means, I've seen different things on different sites as to what the "P" means. Biggest thing I need to know is will standard 139QMB parts fit it?
The best explanation I've seen for the "P" code is that is in reality a 64cc. Here's a video where the guy actually shows the difference between the 139 & 1P39 engines.
Additionally, should I be considering upgrading the CDI, coil wire, lights to LED bulbs, etc? Basically, I want to know what upgrades I need to be considering for the future. I'm more concerned with reliability and safety than with power and need it to maintain speed rather than increase top end power. I can't afford a car so this scoot will be my only transportation.

I would upgrade all the lights. LEDs for all stop and signal lights and HID's for the main headlight(s). It will save power and also be much brighter which equates to greater safety. They also generally last 100 times longer than regular bulbs.
I've seen tests that show the "performance" CDIs did very little to increase anything.
A hotter coil would be good along with a nice selection of good reflectors. You want to be seen, more than ever on a scoot.

1 = the number of cylinders 39 = the bore in millimeters of the cylinder Q = a GY6 type engine MB= a numerical code for the displacement in cc's, in this case 50cc
Read more: GY6 Engine Codes
The P head is supposedly taller but I've never had trouble with P heads interchanged with non P. Since it is the head and sits on top of the cylinder, it will not affect the cc's. The argument is that the ports are larger and increases HP by 1, who knows? If it were the stroke it would affect cc's. But if it says 139QMB and in the factory state, it's 50cc. Go to LEDs because the charging system on these things suck, unless it's a three phase, and yours would not be. As far as the hot CDIs, coils, etc., they increase the performance, of the dealers bank account. IMO a hotter spark on an engine this small does not increase combustion, the adjustable CDIs can change the timing and that might help a little but there's a lot of debate on that. You can pour hundreds of dollars into a BBK on a 50cc and if you crank up the HP 10% you went from 7 to 7.7HP. Hang on buddy boy!! OK, argue with me guys, regale me of tales of lightening fast 50cc bikes. Hey, a BBK is fun, I did a 150cc, I could feel a difference but it wasn't dramatic at the end of the day. You want faster and better pulling power? There is no replacement for displacement. Ride the thing for a while, then think about upgrades, you'll know what you want at that point. In the meantime....buy a trickle charger and keep it on it. Rich

I have a black mesh safety vest with reflective tape that I wear anytime it's not bright and sunny out. People may laugh but that reflective tape on my back is right in view of a standard windshield so it gets me seen, let 'em laugh so long as it helps me be safer.
Got an older guy here who rides a scoot to work daily. He drives a shuttle van that takes people around town. Says he drives year-round unless by some chance we do get snow. Last year we got a grand total of about 3" the whole winter, most times we get just a dusting. I plan to order a set of all weather coveralls before winter, maybe Wahls. My brother wears Wahls riding his 4-wheeler in cold weather and even if they get wet, he stays pretty dry.
I'll look on Ebay for the lights, that will be my first upgrade and maybe extra reflectors there too.

Glad to here you are back on the road by all means were safety gear if it makes you feel more confritable at night. Saftey is always the smart way to go nothing to laugh about. I am no means a pro I prefer to stay crash free.

Stopped by the shop I bought my scoot from because I couldn't find any lose connection for gas gauge. They couldn't find anything wrong either so ordered a new sending unit and I have to go back the end of the week to get it installed.
Do any of the tile vendors sell a good light kit upgrade? Or should I just check Ebay?
Also, found videos from a 90gtvert on youtube for a TaoTao project, exact same scoot as mine, just a 2013. He seems pretty knowledgeable from what I watched but has anyone here watched his vids? Considering trying some of the upgrades he tested, especially since he's way heavier than me.

Brent aka 90gtvert, is a master at his craft. His videos are top notch and he knows exactly what he's talking about. Visit his site by putting your cursor on the friends button at the top of our site and clicking 49ccscoot. Tell him Rich and the gang from Scooter Doc says hey. Rich

Peeled all my stickers off cause I don't like the color combo. Plan to paint it come winter but I found out something interesting. The Goo-Gone power gel (the kind w/ citrus extracts) will remove the paint that was under the stickers. So I now have a couple small white spots where it is supposed to be black.I like the blue but I'm thinking about making it resemble carbon fiber in teal where it's currently black & white. I can get a shade I like in a spray can but I also have an airbrush kit only it runs on cans of propellant so I would probably need to buy more of them to do it that way.
However, before I get ready to paint, I will definitely need a better cover than I have now. Can anyone recommend a good waterproof cover to fit these? Current cover is for a mid size motorcycle and it covers mirrors/trunk & almost to ground. However, it was a quick purchase @ Big Lots and is not waterproof in even medium rain.

Called the dealer today and the new fuel sending unit is in. Hopefully will be going Monday to get it replaced. Didn't go today because after the kitten had seizures I didn't want to leave him home alone.

I don't like water proof covers. If it rains and then gets warm and sunny the bike rusted real fast. Even in just high humidity it collected water under under it while the breathable one let it dryout. The best I had was for the ATV that was water proof but had vents. Very expensive and I felt not really worth it.

I got small LED light bars to add to the front of my scoot. I was going to wire them into my amber side lights but not positive which wire to hook them too. I have a blue & a green wire going to those lights. I know green is usually ground but this is more of a pale green & I'm not sure if these bikes follow wiring colors. The lights I'm installing have a solid black, blue, black w/white stripe. The solid black is for the ground and I have to wire the blue & black w/ white stripe to my hot wire. I plan to install them facing towards the ground and they say blue but it is more of the blue-white like in halogen lights. The current plan is to use the included brackets and mount them on the outside edge of the lower front fairing. If that's not a good idea, I can take them back and look for something different. These are the lights I got: www.causa.com/store/catalog.asp?item=4345Also, the headlight bulb reads "S2 12v 35/35w E4 2PA". When searching for this bulb, I found a seller on Amazon that lists it as a BA20D style bulb. Is this correct and if so, is that what I need to search to look for a better/brighter bulb. Found these @ Wally World for $7.87. www.blazer-international.com/productdetail.php?itemno=CW1531R&cat=1 Was thinking of adding 2 of them to the back and wiring them into my stop/turn lights to act as additional lighting there and placing them a little lower down, maybe where a plate would go.

any idea what size hoses are on these scoots for fuel & vac? I don't want to have to tear covers off just to get the sizes if I don't have to but I would like to upgrade the lines.
And any ideas on whether the blue wire or green wire on the side markers on the front is the hot wire so I can add my LED lights?
