I've always had an issue where my scooter would run rich. No amount of adjusting the air/fuel ratio screw fixes it, and I can take the idle screw all the way out without my bike dying. So obviously this extra gas has got to be coming from SOMEWHERE. I'm thinking it's maybe my enrichener, but also maybe not because my scooter does quiet down after awhile of running. I don't see any cracked hoses or anywhere where extra gas could be getting in. So I'm kind of lost as to where all this extra gas is coming from..

What is your jet. Where is your needle? What is your quest?

Why do you believe it is running RICH? Don't go by MPG BS, that all depends on how you ride like a ban-chi in heat or like a normal ban-chi not in heat.
Only 4 things will flow extra UNWANTED fuel: 1. Enricher is not Extending 2. Petcock is bad and fuel is being sucked out of the Vacuum hose. 3. Restrictive AIR FILTER 4. Carb is flooding
EXTRA FUEL due to carb setup being wrong: 1. To big of a PILOT JET 2. To big of a MAIN JET 3. The needle is not set right or the wrong size 4. The Fuel or Air Screw is not working, needle point is flatten out, wrong Fuel or Air Screw. Alleyoop

I am running a 98 (maybe?) main jet, stock air box, stock idle jet (whatever that is, and it worked before), and my needle is not adjustable. The engine will die if I give it a quick twist of the throttle (or maybe recover). I just don't want it to die when I give it quick twists of throttle, unless this extra richness is making me go faster (I max out my speedometer regularly, I ride like a ban-chi in heat...). Also I probably shouldn't be able to remove the idle screw and still have it idle.

There you go 98 MAIN JET HOLY TOMATOES! DO YOU HAVE A BIG BORE KIT ON IT like a 83cc-100cc? If NOT your way over jetted for a stock motor. Why not just put on a 750 holley carb instead. You people think pouring a gallon of gas into a motor will rip up the asphalt.
Taking out the screw will allow it to still idle. NOW if you turn the SCREW all the way CLOSED and it still IDLEs THEN YOU KNOW the PILOT JET IS TO BIG. Closing the screw the motor should die when there is ONE turn left before all the way closed.
I can see why it BOGS when you twist the throttle YOUR OVER JETTED to MUCH FUEL BUD PERIOD. Alleyoop

Okay, maybe the jet isn't THAT big. Maybe it was a 78. All I know is that my brother gave it too me as a size up from the stock jet! The scooter is not bogging when I give it throttle, it just almost dies if I give it a quick twist, which means it's running slightly rich. And I don't mean the air fuel screw. If I close the air fuel screw all the way the motor does not die. I'm saying that if I take my idle adjustment screw out so that the carb throttle is completely closed, the bike still idles. The air fuel ratio screw simply does nothing for me, and the idle adjustment screw won't let me kill it.

Listen Up, TO MUCH FUEL, same with the IDLE all the way out and the SLIDER all the why down, TO MUCH FUEL that is why it keeps running and won't die. And that is why if you twist the throttle it SPUTTERS OUT, YOUR FLOODING THE POOR LITTLE ENGINE. But If you won't listen then live with it, It is not going to get fixed by itself you have to change STUFF to make it run right. Have you looked at the plug? It will be fouled, like the a FOWL BIRD I THINK

So here's the deal. I went ahead and I just cleaned the carb jets and inside of the carb. The pilot jet was SLIGHTLY clogged. After a thorough cleaning, my idle screw is now fully functional. When I put my carb back on I couldn't get my airbox back on so it was running VERY lean and sounded like a dying horse (I hate the noise of the carb drawing in air). I got the airbox back on all the way and clamped on, and it was running..lean...what the...okay, so basically I adjusted the air fuel ratio screw and now I'm at an almost perfect ratio. I'm purposely running slightly rich, so now my bike idles great, and doesn't try to die out on me. Yeah!
