Alright guys, I've got a 50cc GY6 that runs great, and is, in general great! Has no electrical gremlins to my eye, except for one that I can't quite put into words..here..just take a look: I replaced the voltage regulator, looks to be the same problem The bike honestly performs fine, but I CANT figure out why its doing this...The multimeter comes within 6 inches of the battery and the thing SPAZZES. If I touch just the ground probe to the battery, it SPAZZES, and if you touch just the positive probe to the battery, it doesn't...so..any idea?

So we bought a brand new 50cc TaoTao from a dealer in Indiana, and this has been our adventure so far, leading up to us listing it for sale tonight! We really can't take this thing anymore. - Get it home from the dealer, everything is running great! Works very good. - Take it for a ride, again, works great - Bike still has less than 100 miles on it - We unfortunately stressed it keeping up with traffic, pegged the RPMs as high as possible and WOT for a good 2-3 minutes on our way to Big Boy - Get to Big Boy, notice a very...hot motor smell? - Start it and ride it home, extreme power loss, not running correctly. Did we run it too hard?? - Get an 80cc BBK for it, tear down engine, do a complete top end rebuild..This is what we found during that: Begin motor teardown That's all thats left... One of these looks...used? Heavily scored piston? ? Anyway, complete the top end rebuild, start it, runs great! Once again bring it out, and end up running it hard a couple times but we tried to keep it down in RPM. Get it home that night, its still running great. Wake up today, go to start it, and...no start. It will only start with A LOT of gas applied. Idle screw is MAXED out and it wont even START. We have checked EVERYTHING!! Bike REFUSES to idle Spark plug? Gapped and replaced, sparking like crazy Carburetor? Cleaned, and then when that didn't work, REPLACED! Tried two different airbox configurations Tried to adjust the valves, they were within spec Checked timing, it's good Checked compression, 151 PSI Tons of gas flowing to the carb Tons of vacuum Changed CDI Changed coil Changed battery Changed magneto stator Changed voltage regulator I am DONE with this bike. About to put it in the TRASH

Hope it works right. I woke up to fresh snow cover here in eastern Wisconsin as well. I did take it out for a spin in the neighborhood...Sounds like the new belt is keeping my bike in much lower RPMs compared to the old one. Makes me wonder if the old belt was allowing a lot of slip?

Yikes, that is incredibly frustrating - What is interesting is that you said you can put your finger over the hole in the automatic choke and it starts no problem... Do you know if the bike is running lean or rich? Maybe your air-fuel ratio is off enough to where it doesn't like to start cold? I would mess around with that a bit.

Got the belt in today - Replacing it was a pain by myself, I ended up taking the whole bell housing off with an impact wrench just so I could compress it with my hands and get the belt in there..From there, it was relatively smooth sailing... Although, I am glad that I took the variator off and looked at the rollers...look at the condition they came off in!! And then after that, getting the CVT cover back on for some reason was a pain, things weren't lining up! And after I got it on the first time, I kicked the kickstarter and I heard a loud cracking noise. Turns out I put the kickstarter back together wrong and the internal gear just kind of flew out? So I had to take the CVT cover back off again and reseat everything. CVT cover was still a pain to put back on, and I'm not entirely sure why (It 'snapped' into place after trying to tighten down a few bolts, thats not very good). But either way, kickstarter works as intended (It was frozen up before, because the internal kickstarter gear was actually rusty - PB Blaster took care of that!), and the belt is rockin'. So now I just have to pray it stops SNOWING (eww, its only 36 degrees...it was 65 last week.)

You haven't been gone all that long, I still remember you. Sorry to read about your mishap. Did the cop do a good thing for you? Haha, I wish - He rolled right past me! I just found it particularly funny that their job is to protect and serve, but not even a care in the world!

Long time no see, everybody! It's been A LONG time since I've posted here - Thought I would come in and..well, exist. Broke the scooters out of storage yesterday, and went out for a 30 mile run, got home, great times! Still had the craving to go back out and ride some more though... So any who, went back out, about 5 miles out, coming into a roundabout at about 25 mph with a cop behind me when all of a sudden...what's that sound? SNAP! VROOOOOOOOOOOM. Engines racing, no power....well...uh.. Yeah... And there ended my day! Waiting for a new belt now! Thanks tvnacman

Hello, everybody! We've recently acquired a new addition to our scooter arsenal, a 2009 Hyosung Sense (2-stroke). And so far the biggest issue we have had with it is that it is leaking oil quite badly, going through almost all of its oil within a 10 mile ride....
All the oil is dripping out and hitting the exhaust, as well as getting all over the underside of the scooter. We cannot seem to pinpoint the leak. Anybody have any experience with these bikes? They're not easy to take apart, the plastic seems to be of very high quality and the seat bucket is actually welded in place..
Any suggestions?
Also, does anyone know how they scooters are restricted? We hit 35 MPH and the motor will not go above that

I'm not a mf'er......I'm a fm'er......a futher mucker. Plant, I'm glad your bike started so easy after sitting. But I don't think that's an indicator of quality. The bike was simply sitting idle for a while. The components weren't being used so how could they fail? The fact that it started just means the battery was hot, the fuel delivery clear, and the plug was OK. That's all basic maintenance. Now put 10,000 trouble free miles on that thing and we'll talk. Ride a SYM for a while and you'll see what I'm talking about. I don't begrudge anybody's right to ride Chinese or look down on them because they do. I'm just saying it's not for me anymore. Understood. I'll be going to put 5000 more miles on it right now with only basic maintenance and I'll get back with you when my wheels fall off

I guess I haven't had to do too much wrenching on my scooter, it's been reliable for me. But what exactly counts as a long trip here? I did regular 30 mile trips on my 50cc, WOT basically all the time, actually most of the 4900 miles on the bike are WOT, and no issues SO FAR. I take cRaZy care of it though, oil changes every 500 or so miles, gearbox oil changes every 2000, new spark plug every 3000, (on my second plug now), and I've put a new boot on (not that I've needed it). It's been pretty low cost for me.

Somebody get that scooter a burger fast, it's been in hibernation, it's going to be hungry! I got it its burger. A good gallon of clean gas (the gas I had in the video was what it was stored with), tires up to pressure. And tomorrow I'll be finishing up by just pulling it apart and checking to make sure the carb is still good and tight, and all the bolts are in their places good. I took it for a preliminary spin and everything seems great actually, but I just want to be sure. The only thing I noticed is that the return spring on the kickstart rusted from being wet, because I washed it and didn't dry it properly before putting it away, so I just sprayed that with PB Blaster and I was golden..everything feels good on the bike so far. During the preliminary ride though, I did think I heard a "whoosh.....whoosh" noise coming from the back wheel. Sounds like something might need lube...or a gear oil change. I really don't know how people can diss these things. Get a bike either new or that was treated right, and you'll have lots of fun on a Chinese bike!! I saw that we recently lost someone's faith in Chinese bikes (ahem, rides a SYM ), and wish to bring them back. Come back to the dark side!

So we finally pulled my scooter out of storage today...six months in storage, just sitting there. Let's see how this "cheap" Chinese bike starts after 6 months of sitting and doing nothing (the only thing I did before this first start was change the oil out, it had straight 40 in it when I stored it clean, and I had to put 10w-40 in it) Not bad for a cheap Chinese bike that will always break down on you
