My 2012 150cc rocketa gy6 clone has a questionable amount of miles on it. The individual who sold it said it had 2200 but the bike says 400. Anyway I want to be prepared for when the inevitable happens. Fortunately I found my bike was out of batteries when I was home and not at work or school. I would hate for that to happen while on the street somewhere. What are some of the warning signs I should be looking for in a bike this old? - I have noises in my exhaust area and occasional popping during acceleration and backfire during deceleration
- I had to slide one of the pipes back on to my junction gas/vac line thing...
- working with the blinkers, no blinkers or hazards at the moment
- need a kill switch for the alarm system because it drains my battery
- i think i will need to start looking at he braking system soon too
Your advice is appreciated.

Heruk you sound like your right on what you should be looking for as far as the back firing I have a friend that has a scooter and it's a little older but his seems to keep going and has not had many problems other that a starter went at like 3000 miles. Not to say your will his filled up with oil some how. As far as the brakes there pretty easy to check if there disk there is a liabary section that explains it. Undo your to bolts that hold on the forks and inspect. Depending on your set up I think you need an alen key to get the pads of on that scooter. If there less than a dime of pad then they should be replaced. Lightly sand pad and rotor before applying new ones and bolt back up.
As far as the engine change your oil and always make sure it has oil in it if it doesn't you can do a lot of damage pretty easy thing to check. You might want to change your diff fluid in your scooter it should be about ready you must have a brocken spedo cable if you only have 400 miles and guy who sold it to you must of keep track of gas station fill ups. You will need a cyringe to put oil in the dif there is also a liabary section on this form you can find that info. Good luck hope that was some help.

I have noises in my exhaust area Me too man, my wife is about sick of me! Popping=>Check your exhaust header and make sure it's tight and HAS A GASKET UNDER THE FLANGE! Check the ACV valve on the right side of the carb and make sure the vac line is tight. You may need to pull the valve and check the diaphragm. You may need to set the A/F screw ala Alley's method. All of this is in the library. Gas/vac line thingie?=>I need a pic No blinker, no hazards=>Probably bad flasher. Check Turn signal troubleshooter in Library. You mean a shut off for the alarm? I'll let Alley deal with that...he's the alarmist around here. JV has good advice on your brakes as well as the other issues.

Your advice is appreciated. PICTURES OF THE CARB AREA AND HOSES WOULD HELP to see what kind of mess may be there: That really is not a old scoot, 2200KM is not a lot at all and a 2012 to boot. Probably reason they sold it because they messed it up and did not know how to fix it. Popping During acceleration is to much gas and I would bet whoever owned it put to big of jets in the carb(JUST ABOUT ALL THINK DUMPING A GALLON OF GAS INTO THE MOTOR THEY WILL TEAR UP THE ASHPALT..HAHA). So for this one take the carb off and see what size jets are in there ESPECIALLY the main jet it should have the number on top of the jet are on the side by the top. Backfiring is not good THAT IS A VERY LEAN CONDITION and it can damage your exhaust valve then your in deep doo-doo, new head at the least and possibly new piston and rings. Check where the exhaust pipe connects to the motor it may be leaking by the flange VERY COMMON and you would need a new gasket. Also check the AIR FILTER TUBING it may have rips or they drilled holes in the box or whatever TO MUCH AIR. Summer semester starts today so the only thing I have worked on is the blinkers so far. I got the relay fixed and they all work cept one that is unhooked because the screws tore it apart. The rest I think ill save the work for the weekends or for after summer semester. 13 weeks of work crammed into 5
Thanks for checking on me bro. Ill have some pics of her innards soon

No problem bud I will check in later to see your progress. Good luck on your education. That is very important compared to your scooter. When you take a break look into the scooter if you have the time.

Hows your progress coming heruk. Havn't posted in a while. I added and on and off switch from my alarm system so my battery no longer drains and I've also purchased a new blinker module and all that is taken care of but now I'm still getting the popping on deceleration and my scooter is stalling upon 50% throttle

Sounds like alley is pointing you in the right direction you probley going to need stock jets for your carb. To much fuel can not be burnt is giving you problems I think. I am no expert like them guys alley and bashan but scooter sounds like it is flooding it self out. Good luck in school and your scooter.

Good luck in school and your scooter. turns out it was a spark plug problem but since I was all ready and willing to adjust the valves and clean the carburetor before I changed the spark plugs I am going to go ahead and do those things just to get a feel for it
