I'm going to let ok at a Roketa MC-54-250b on Saturday. I know from reading so far what I am getting into with a Chinese scooter. I am a pretty mechanically inclined person having overhauled snowmobile and motorcycle engines. But just would like to know if there is anything obvious I should be watching out for.. The seller has it priced lower than others on craigslist.. Here is a shot of it, body looks to be in pretty good shape.. Its just the stuff under it that is the unknown..

Looks like a pretty nice scooter if running good now and you do general matneince should last a couple seasons. That is pretty low miles to the sight. There is a couple of people who have same scooter on this sight they have had a couple of problems but figured out a way to fix fast. Is that scooter all stock has it had any work done to it from previous owner that you no of. You might need a rear tire in after a couple more miles if original. Not to bad to get done and balanced hope if you get this scooter you enjoy it several seasons. good luck on the purchase.

That is a very popular body my Trike is the same body style and parts are easy to get. Also find out which motor it has the Helix 244cc Vertical or the Linhai Horizontial motor. If your mechanical then no problem once you get them setup right they are very reliable. Alleyoop

They're cheap because they're Chinese. There's all kinds of parts available just don't expect brand specific....buy by the engine number and body style. If you're mechanically inclined you can make them work. I've had good success with the Chinese scoots...but to be honest..they're not Japanese or Taiwanese...don't expect that. But don't expect the price tags either. Rich

On that particular scoot, (I have the same one) check the shock mounts on the back. Also look at the bottom of the engine at the mounts for the exhaust. They have a tendency to crack and split after a while. Check the bolts on the engine mounts where the CVT and exhaust connect. whenever you work on them, be sure and use Locktite on them. They have been known to come off without warning. Look at the oil to see how burnt it is. And hopefully the seller has all his maint records for it.
Take a meter with you and see if it's charging correctly. If not, Have him knock $100 off the price. Body panels are fairly cheap, but look for dings, dents, scratches and such.
And if you can... In Hawaii, I can run the VIN and see if it's stolen. Do that if you can. You'd be surprised how many stolen ones get ripped off and re-sold. Don't use the one on the nameplate on the outside of the body. Open the gas cover and use the one stamped on the frame.

Great, honest, experienced advice from the G man. He said everything I was trying to say. Caveat emptor, that's all I can say. Rich

Well I went to look at it today and it followed me home! Looks good few dings and scratches. Runs pretty good, carb needs a good cleaning.. Wants to stall a little when coming to a stop. I'm going to do my own complete PDI even tho it has 2400 miles on it.. Thanks everyone for the tips! Greatly appreciated!

That's a great engine, Jack and Alley know all about that engine and can answer all questions. Try bumping the idle up a little, sounds like it's a bit low at a stop. When on the center stand the idle should be just below the rear wheel engaging, it should be motionless. Use this manual for your engine. Rich
