I have a 88 Razz that I am trying to get running better. I am a novice with engines. I know the carb probably needs to be fixed. Is there a step by step guide to do this or better yet a video? I can get it started with the kickstart after about 10 kicks. It runs ok, but wants to stall out.

If you go to Youtube.com and enter a search for Razz videos you may find what you need. I would venture that if it has a four stroke engine it needs a valve adjustment. If a two stroke engine it could need new piston rings.

This is the fuel cock? Can I substitute something else or do I need an exact replacement?

Your pic did not come through. You'll have to use an image service like Photobucket. There's a tutorial on the no scooter zone board for posting pix.

hold it right there.. do not touch the carb!!!!! do this first... pull the three tubings attached to the petcock , remove the petcock ( there are two screws holding it) now disassemble that stupid petcock, there are 5 screws in the backside, remove the cover, careful the spring might jump like a clown out of the box. now the diaphragm is now exposed, look closely, examine the diaphragm for some tear and holes, if there are some holes you need to replace the entire petcock, sadly you cant buy just the diaphragm. the effin petcock cost $46. in amazon or ebay. for a 30+ year old scooter and the only problem is the diaphragm? id say its a solid scooter, i have one myself amd doing same thing, it starts but dies because gas is flooding the spark plug, due to bad petcock diaphragm, carb is not always the culprit !!! good luck

or you could save your money and put a manual shut off in there and block the vacuum line off. I have a razz. same year as yours. parts are expensive.

just block the vac line with a vac Cap from any parts store and get a lawnmower fuel shutoff from a lawnmower repair place and put it in place of it. just remember to shut it off when you get done riding.
