Okay, since we closed up the shop I've found all sorts of time. Amazing how that works. Anyway in addition to the Lance PCH 125 and the SYM Symba, I felt something was missing. Those two are GREAT for short trips around town but I find anything over a half an hour and my fat arse starts getting sore.
Enter my newest find.... 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500: Pristine condition, Quick release windshield and 5800 miles, wholesaled to me by a dealer for 2K. How could I pass that up?
Looking forward to expanding my travel zone.

Great Find! If there was ever an under-estimated motorcycle in this world that one is it. It has more ponies than many a Classic British Bike yet it's referred to as "Entry level". As if a bike capable of near 100 mph performance is a beginners bike. Load a windshield and some bags on it and it will go anywhere, and run at 75 mph all day doing it. Congrats Cookies. You got a winner there.

I put a K&N on my Vulcan 1500 and it was a kick in the pants with nothing else done. Then I put muffs on and hold on Mama! Then I had an engineer from Harley do some stuff to it and crapola! It ran perfect for 55K miles other than a clutch snafu that the "stealer" made much more complicated and expensive than it actually was. My friend at Harley told me the older Vulcan engines were perfected and there was a gazillion of them sitting on shelves waiting to be used. The 500 was one of those engines. Enjoy Tom, you'll love the Vulcan. Rich

I was all set to pull the trigger on a '14 Honda CTX700 . Then I did some research online and found all the positive accolades about the Vulcan. A simple search on cycle trader revealed its whereabouts. Took it out for a little 100 mile ride today and ...wow... that's all I can say. Rides great.

Vulcan is an awesome bike. You're going to love it. Wish I still had mine and could shift. I'd be on it instead of the scoot.

I hear that Dave. My wife has withdrawn, I hope temporarily, from riding. When she told me she said, "But you don't have to sell the Honda if you think you'll use it." I adjusted the controls and mirrors for me and have ridden it a few times. After years of riding big bikes the Rebel is.....small. Still quicker than the scooter though. If I had to take a long trip I would be standing in the garage going "Eeny, Meenie......" Fashion or Rebel?

I agree dave,,scootering around town is fun,,quick blast to work,,(i live 8 miles from my studio),,,but any great distances that need to be covered quickly,,,i'll take a bmw r110r or a big four like KZ had,,,altho that ride those 2 guys did sanfran to NY looked interesting,,,wouldn't mind showing up at sturgis after a long ride,,,

My next scooter will more than likely be a bike. If I can't have a full floor board and have to lift my leg over a hump it is going to be a bike for sure. Besides my back is not getting any better. I was taking notice of the bumps in the road today after getting a new set of tires on the car, the new tires were a lot smoother riding. As soon as I got home I went back out on the majesty for breakfast and again same bumps. When you hit one with the front wheel you hardly feel it and the back wheel tries to pound my butt bone up past my belly button. You say softer shocks.....well then they will bottom out. They already bottom out at a crawling speed going from driveways to street with 2 up. Younger people will say big scooters ride nice, and they are comfortable, but if you get some bad disc's in your lower back then you will see how I feel.
