Turns out that the O-Ring on the air adjusting screw is broken, which explains why it can't kill the engine. I found the screw by itself but it was almost $20 with shipping!! So I just ordered a complete carb rebuild kit from eBay for $11.50 with shipping..includes the screw, o ring spring, etc. sometimes you just have to order in bulk..so I guess I'll have a carb rebuild kit laying around.

Next time go to the local hardware store in the plumbing section and get a box of chemical resistant washer O rings in various sizes. Maybe $5 and you have plenty for different kinds of repairs on bikes or around the house.

Okay, so I got my replacement part today. I replaced it and the problem is STILL not fixed. It is running a LOT less rich than it was, but still running slightly rich (I can give it some quick throttle to make it almost want to die, even though the screw is turned in ALL THE WAY). At this point, I'm thinking that maybe my main jet is too large, as I DID upgrade my main jet by 2 without getting an air upgrade...looks like it's time to put a stock jet in!

Change your air instead. Might as well use the bigger jet for better performance and just upgrade the air flow to match.

Change your air instead. Might as well use the bigger jet for better performance and just upgrade the air flow to match. Unfortunately I would much prefer how quiet my bike is now. When you upgrade the air you also increase the noise (the noise of the carb sucking in air is quite annoying in my honest opinion). I already get sufficient performance (I regularly max out my 70KPH speedometer), so I don't mind going down a jet.

Plant, the A/F screw is generally relevant for low to mid throttle....quit obsessing over it! The jet size and the needle setting will have a lot more to do with the overall mixture. And why were you messing with your jets young man? Hmmmm?.....get off of my lawn and take the weird visage of Freeky with you. Put the stock jets back in because we don't want a noisy intake! I went ahead and threw the stock main jet and pilot jets in. Adjusted the AF screw, and now I'm running great! When I started it up after swapping the jets I was VERY lean. So after a quick adjustment here and there, I'm doing great. No more stumble when I give it throttle, and it accelerates just as fast as it did before.

The reason I up jetted was because I was running lean and I couldn't fix it. I guess the main jet I threw in was too big. I'm guessing that I just didn't know how to properly adjust the screw back then and that's why I just stuck to it (it's been like this for awhile). And yes, it will stall now.

Learn to tune your mix screw, hot engine, and by ear... The weather will affect the fine tune. Make sure your stock air filter is nice and wet with oil (pour a lot on it and wring/squeeze out).
