Haynes makes a good scooter book but the most knowledge is here and in the tech library.

If you can hold off a couple weeks we should have a GY6 manual finished that will be very inclusive for care and feeding of GY6 scooters. It will be totally free and in PDF and HTML. The Haynes is good, I'm not sure what they're asking these days. Rich

Also being new to these machines I believe I have the same question. Is there literature that describes the different types, engines, drive trains, sources to purchase locally and availability of maintenance items. In short how to make an informed choice. While this site and the great people here will be an excellent source of information AFTER the purchase, a little fore-knowledge is always welcome.

There no sources locally, Parts for Scooters is my favorite and personal best and the guys up top are the best to buy scooters from. Them and GS Motorworks.com. There are only three Chinese scooter engines. GY6, CN-250 (244cc) and Linhai Yamaha 257 and 275cc engines.
