I would like some input on this bike it has 37,464 miles on it and it has new tires, new brakes, new battery, maintenance at regular intervals. This gentelman has owned this bike for 5 years and just bought a 650cc burgman and wants to sell his burgman 400cc. I wont be running highways, mostly around town and an occasional run out in the country
Thanks kalee

Sounds good, but at about 40k, the Burgman requires a bit of major maintenance. Ask if the engine or Trans has been overhauled lately. If yes, then go for it.

I differ with most people here on this. If the scooter rides fine, isn't smoking or making odd noises and the price is right I would go for it. Today's scooters are built for the long haul. While rare, there are a few scooters out there with 100,000+ miles on the clock. If it made it this far, and has had regular maintenance, it will go a lot longer.

A quick blast thru the internet says wheel bearings tend to go at 45-50000 miles,,,,some had engine troubles starting at 58-65000 miles,,,no biggie fixes other than belts and pulleys,,,two guys ,,one had 90000+ and runs like new,,,another had 100000+ same thing runs great,,,it all boils down to maintainance and regular service and use or abuse,,,,

It's usually the wheel bearings and the variator/clutch combo that go bad around 40k. On a small scooter, not a big deal, On a Burgy?... I've never worked on one so I don't know, but I was told by a guy who owns 3 of them that it's a major repair. But then maybe he paid Zook to do it and we know the Dealer is always more expensive.

For $1,500, I'd go for it. Especially if he has all his maint records.

I emailed the guy yesterday and he told me it had 25,000 miles on it when he got the bike ( and he didnt know if anything had been done in those miles ) and he has put on 12,000 more and nothing has been done to it. SO I think I'm going to stay away from this bike, I guess I was looking cause it was cheap but that may be more repairs than I want to get into. Thanks to all SCD friends for your input.cyborg, I have not seen it in person its on e-bay for sale

Yup Something that's been trouble free for 37,000 miles is surely something to walk away from.
But, I would like to know the definition of 'nothing has been done to it'. Can we assume he has done the regular routine maint, and has had no major issues with it. I was under the impression that reg maint was 90% of a trouble free vehicle. Especially a name brand (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki) scoot. But, if you want something perfect, than your only choice is to buy a name brand scoot brand new.
