Bashan, JR, Alleyoop, I have read some other threads related to charging system problems. They have been helpful in getting my bearings on where to start troubleshooting. So, with that being said, however, I still have a problem with the charging system. I checked the voltages on the stator. Both the yellow and white wires read between 8 to 40V AC. I have replaced the Rectifier/Regulator but the battery is still not charging. With the motor rev'ed, voltage at the red wire on the R/R is only 12.85V DC, and same at the battery. I have checked continuity and there are no broken wires or loose connections. Where do I go from here?

I'm not sure what you mean your Y and W read between 8 and 40. You should get about 20 on the yellow and 40 AC on the white at some RPMs....unhooked. Which is which on 8 and 40? 12.85 is not terrible, but not great. Is your battery pretty new or over three years?

I would check the ground connections and stator and regulator connections changing the wires for heaver wire will not hurt either . I have seen charging systems act funny with a weak battery .

Also check the charging diode.

Bashan tvnacman GuitarmanThank you for the quick responses. Bashan, I checked the Y and W from the stator with the stator unplugged. The AC voltages on both wires were in the 8 to 9V range at idle. With the engine rev'ed (I don't have a tach so I don't know the precise RPM) the voltage on either the Y or W were 32-34V. I don't know the age of the battery. tvnacman, What gauge do you recommend, 12, 10, 8? Most of the wires look to be 14-16 gauge. Guitarman, Where on the scooter would the charging diode be located, most likely, and what does it look like? How would I test it?

Also check the charging diode. I didn't know there was a charging Diode, show us the diode on your scooter so we know what it looks like. Alleyoop

I don't think he has one Alley. It's a GYW single phase stator. It would have to be three phase all DC. Workshop, did you test continuity between the green, yellow, and white in all combinations? Even so, your stator voltages are hinky and your charging voltage is low. I'm betting it's your stator. What kind of a bike is it and do you have a wiring diagram?

Ok turkey boy... That diode allows the battery to be charged. If it goes, dead battery. Now get in the corner and play with your giblets.

That's true Andy but they're very rare on a GY6, that was Alley's point, but they do show up so point taken. Hey Alley, gobble...gobble...gobble......gooooooooobble! You heard that one before right?

Yep. Meter it for continuity. One way you will get it, one way you won't. If you get it both ways, it's blown. It may not buzz the meter, but you will see a massive difference in the resistances.
