Nah. The Rebel is about one step up from a Briggs and Stratton lawn tractor engine. A measly 16 horse, one carb for two cylinders and geared pretty high. It must be spinning about 7500 at 60 mph. What it lacks in power they make up for in tight gearing. I went the non-ethanol route as a hedge against ethanol glop in the system. Non-ethanol was only available in premium grade.

Of course octane is determined differently in different parts of the world. Pump octane ( average of Research and Motor octane) in the United States and Canada is different from research octane (RON). Typically 87 octane we call regular on this side of the pond is 91-92 octane (RON) in Europe and Asia. If your scooter is marked to run on 91 octane (Ron) then it is supposed to run on regular. If it does not knock using regular 87 octane (AKI) then you are just wasting money running higher octane IMO. Now additives, I use them. Seafoam I use to cut the effects of ethanol and Stabil when they have to sit up for a while. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

YES! Finally somebody that gets it! Now when I say they all have the same additives I mean from the refinery. They all have the same detergents and cleaners. It's only the spark retardants that vary between the different grades of gas. Certainly everyone has post pump additives they feel help although I think draining your gas is the best stabilizer around. If you have stabil sitting around and it turns dark red...throw it out.
