I had an issue before with the bike having to spin once, then stops, then turns and starts normally. Finally did it again and I got it on video. Dunno if it will happen again, but as long as I know what it is, so much the better. drive.google.com/file/d/0Byy0KRaiu0mfSlpWOWhkTXVTakE/edit?usp=sharingI hope it's just nothing, but better safe than sorry.

I would think the engine is coming to rest very close to top dead center on the compression stroke and there's not enough momentum to go past it on the first stab at the button,,,but i would check all of the connections from the battery ,solenoid , starter and also would check the ground of the starter,,,and the actual ground to the frame from the battery,,,,my stella did that when i first got it,,,i thought i had a wonky starter on my hands ,,,turned out to be the ground from the battery to the frame,,,,bolt wasn't snug enough

Well obviously that battery is hot! Pete is correct, it's coming up on compression and the starter doesn't have a chance to get it spinning. You might consider a performance starter, they won't do that and they are plug and play. It's a simple bolt on and one cable. Rich

The battery is brand new BTW. It isn't currently doing it, but in case it happens again....

Are you using a performance cdi ? I agree with Rich and Cyborg . However I heard what sounded to me like valve ticking while cranking .
