What's the best way to go about calculating the mileage of my scooter without just running the tank empty (I've done that a few times and I wasn't trying to calculate my mileage) and checking the odometer?

The number one thing is to find out how far off the odometer is. One of those measured 1 mile highway markers and go more than just a few miles.

I'm using a bicycle speedometer ATM, so it is pretty accurate.

Mines pretty spot on also on the Stella ,,I just fill it remember the mileage then fill up again ,,, but I'm not trying to split hairs tho,,,I'm at between 103-107 mpg ,,, quite a bit off of the touted 140 on the genuine website but it's not broke in yet either,, so I may pickup a few more,,, if it settled in around 115 or so I will be very pleased,,,, I would be over the moon if it got anywhere near the official sales pitch bs

Why even bother with the mileage bs, just ride and enjoy the wind in your face. I consider my trike as just a toy to enjoy riding out in the warm sun shine and get me up and out and off my butt(HEHE). Alleyoop

I got 28 on my last bike too. Bikes are not for mileage but for fun.

Well, I just like numbers....like oil temp, engine rpm's, volt meters, etc. etc, so why not mileage. I also keep long term mileage and maintainence records. A drop in mpg is a good indication that something is amiss, or in need of attention (air filter, spark plug, belt or clutch slippage, and so on)
Alley, this spring you advised me as to what a 1 gram slider weight change would do to rpm's. Based on your info, I went up 2 grams...dropped my rpm's by 500 to 600....Last year, (Apr. - Nov.) my scoot averaged 76.62 mpg....This year, (Apr. - present) my scoot has averaged 84.10 mpg...That is a 9.76% increase, with a simple slider weight change. If I didn't keep records, how would I know if a mod is an improvement or a detriment.
Wish more people kept good records...I 'd like to see some real numbers on mods such as Performance CDI's and Coils...got a feeling those things are a lot of smoke and mirrors....Bob

RKS, Yes keeping a record of your mileage you can tell if something you changed effected the mileage in either direction. But going by mileage many times is not that accurate, you could sometimes be in traffic and idling a lot without moving or sometimes opening the sucker up and RPMS costs gas. So for anything that may be going south or needs to be looked at I depend on the tach. Alleyoop

The guy I got my Nighthawk from said whenever the odo read 130 he'd fill it up because it needed it. Since I've had it, (a good bit of maint done) I'm freaked out by what I'm getting.
Filled it up Thursday morning. Full tank = 4 Gals. I put 125 freeway miles on her and today when I pulled into the gas station she only took $2.75 which is just over half a gallon. Is it possible I'm getting 250 miles per gallon on it? I don't think so...but... The tank doesn't lie.
I'm pretty confident in the meter because it agrees with 2 different cars that a round trip to my office and then back home is 29.6 miles.

There's only one way that thing is gettin 250 mpg,,, that's falling out of a plane at 39000 feet,, expect 45-55,,, depending on how hard you lean on the loud handle

I don't play that game anymore. No time to sit around and drool. Got miles to add on my bike.
