I hope there's no problem with this. I'm giving a link to another board where there is a discussion of Japanese screw drivers. I'm wondering if there is a difference with Chinese scooters and if any have noticed a difference on there scooters. I have had to grind off the tips of Philips screwdrivers to work on my Japanese motorcycles.

I have known about the jap screw drivers for quite a few years but have never bought one. The biggest problem with using a philips on any type cross point screw is not using enough pressure pushing the tip into the screw and they want to ride up and ruin both screw driver and the screw. Thats where a hand impact comes into play. All you do is set it to loosen and hit it with a hammer. Any one who works on these scooters and does not own one is just asking for trouble. They normally cost $10 to $15 for a set. I have never done it but they probably could be used for loosening a variator nut and the like too, but I just get the air tools out for them. I am a little gun shy about pounding on a rotating shaft. john

The first major tool purchase for the motorcycles was a Craftsman hand impact driver. I have broken many of the smaller Phillips bits. Until the Sears stores in Milwaukee started to recognize me when I walked in. I never found it useful for removing nuts and a sturdy screwdriver, with tip removed, and hammer worked as well with a little practice. But the biggest thing was that tip shape.

I basically only use Snapon tools and I have noticed differences in Phillip head screws lately in my work,,, it's like the angles of the screw head are wrong,,, my bits don't fit correctly,,, at first I thought the screws Were posidrive but they were not

Dang it, where have I been all my life? Screwdrivers from Japan? All along I thought this was a true American thing?
