Well first of all the orange coil is nothing special and the only good thing about it is it may be more durable. Second, if one of us didn't own and use the CDI you were asking about we can't comment or recommend something we don't have information on. We do this as a hobby for no pay and can't be expected to know everything about every component. If you would like to talk to one of our vendors that help support the site click one of the tiles at the top. I would suggest talking to John at NYC Parts as he has a decent CDI that I can say worked quite well for me. John will not feed you a line to sell you something, he is very honest and straightforward. If you want off super cheap you are always rolling the dice, sometimes you crap out.

Can't say why that cheap one on Amazon has bad reviews. Could be the IDIOTS that bought it do not know how it works. The advancing CDI is retarded for easy starts and it will IDLE really low you have to bring up the idle on them when you put that CDI on. The Timing starts to advance around 3000 rpms. So my take is the IDIOTS that bought it are kids and do not know squat.
What I can say I have one on my ride it has been on there now for 3 years and love it. But I got mine from John(TVNACMAN) as a matter of fact I bought two of them Still have one brand new hanging in my garage still in the package. Alleyoop

All right, fellas. Since this is the CDI questions thread, why do I seem to have two (2) I have a larger one that is the size one might expect to be a DC CDI, but the scoot runs without the battery. This large, 6 pin is mounted to the frame near the coil on the right side. While searching a turn signal issue, I discovered what appears to be a 4 pin CDI under the speedo, up front. I disconnected it and started 'er up and she started fine. Anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped. It's a 2011 ZNEN 150T-9.

I suspect your mixing cdi for regulators . John

This is probably what you found, the Regulator/Rectifiers normally have fins on the caseing to help cool them. Alleyoop

Okay. Here they come. First up is the large size standard looking 6 pin CDI. I pulled it down but did not unhook it. It is mounted onto the frame near the coil, above the flywheel. Next up is a series of shots of the smaller (about the size of a normal AC CDI) I found under the "hood", below the speedo. It was strapped in with a zip tie when I found it. This is how and where I found it. This shows it still connected with the wire colors visible. This is a view of the plug, remarkably similar to the image at Absolutely Scooters Supply of a 4 pin CDI for ATVs with another, brighter shot showing the number ink jetted onto it. Last, but not least, here is a vague shot of my regulator/rectifier, located in the belly. Due to its location, this is the best shot I could get without tearing all the covers off. I have seen it up close previously and can attest to it being the R/R. Okay, I lied. I have 2 more. The first shows the serial tag with model, model year, and VIN. Last (for sure this time) is a shot of the engine stamp data. I can assure you that, in spite of it being a 'BN', it does not have 16" wheels, only 13". 'BN' is apparently the designation that ZNEN puts on all their engines.

Sorry to disappoint (or does this make you smile?), but I did my homework on this one, Oop. That's the main reason I included a pic of my R/R. I visited a few of our scrolling friends at the top of the page to make sure that I was seeing what I thought I was seeing. At first, the 4 pin config threw me, but then I found my unit's little green twin and knew I had to ask the Gurus of Go.

That's a relay. It's probably there to bypass the DC headlights while you're trying to start it. My Fashion has one of those. That's probably a three phase stator?

That could very well be a relay as you suggest. My headlight will turn off after a brief time when shutting down with the kill switch and not the key, and the headlight does not come on until the scoot is running. Low beam and high beam are both off until running with the key on, but my switch has a "passing" position that lights both elements and is spring loaded to return to low beam when released. If the "passing" is pressed with engine not running and key on, the headlight will light up with both elements. Now, if I could only figure out where the bluetooth sensor/receiver is that makes my little cell phone idiot lite light up, I may feel like I am getting somewhere. That and figuring out what's wrong with the fuel system, but that's for a different thread.
Not sure about the 3 phase though. This I can tell you - it has 12 coils and the flywheel has 8 magnets. I knew something was odd there since the CDI is so big and so is the R/R. What is the function here? What is the advantage? In short, what does this mean TO ME??? LOL!
