How do I know whether I have an AC or DC cdi? I have one of the orange coil and cdi sets and was wondering if I can run that on my IceBear 150cc gy6. Thanks guys

Test the BOTTOM wire on the 2 plug on the CDI(POWER FEED WIRE) with a 12v light tester or MULTI METER. TURN THE KEY ON, if it registers 12volts or the Lighter lights up it is a DC CDI if not it is a AC CDI. Alleyoop

Do you happen to recall if the little orange aftermarket boxes are dc or ac? Thank you sir

Just wanted my timing advanced to match the iridium plug, open exhaust, and uni/jet. Figured it couldn't hurt. But, that's why you guys are here...to tell me if I'm an idiot lol

Why do you think you need a CDI? And to further add on to this Buggy Parts NW (hope i got that right), sent me two jets to go with the velocity stack and UNI. I believe the 125 is the smaller. Will that be too much with the timing advance, orange coil, Iridium plug, and exhaust? Sorry I forgot to mention I had the orange coil in the previous post!

If you want a timing advance CDI talk to John at NYC Scooter. I installed one and it works great. You can read about it right here.

Well there are your standard fixed timing performance CDIs be it AC or DC. Then there are some adjustable timing CDIs again AC or DC..Then there is the one John sells that is a variable timing CDI meaning (and if I understand how it works right) it adjusts it's timing curve to mach your engines needs. John also tests his CDIs to ensure they work. Having gone through 2 fixed timing CDIs from ebay that were crap in an orange box, I ended up with one from John and it runs like a mad man. Watch the vid on his site and you'll see it in action.

Yeah, I found several sources selling the adjustable CDIs..but if you ask me, that's more of a pain than I want to deal with. Even then the adjustable one, even though you can adjust them, they are still a fixed timing meaning it's set at one point. Your engine will should run better with one that adjusts it's curve on the go.

Well due to my high compression motor it would KICKBACK everytime I went to start it and it did not sound good. Gears grinding is not pleasant to hear. So I googled and found a CDI that said ADVANCING and they mentioned it would advance as the rpms climbed. SO I talked to John and said can you get those and he did as a matter of fact he ordered a bunch of CDIs. Well I bought one and put it on immediately and NO KICKBACKS it is retarded at low RPMS and does not advance until some rpms are applied(WIN WIN). So I ordered another one from JOHN just to have as a spare and it is still hanging on my garage peg board in the package. Alleyoop Here is the CDI:
