Gah! Seeing your posts just reminds me of the crap I'm going to have to deal with when I finally go get my Matrix out of storage. It was in questionable running shape when it got parked... 2 years ago. Good luck. Its sounds like you're close.

LoL. You never know runningslow, you may just need a battery charge or new battery but if you had fuel in the tank that could be huge rust party in there. If so you may be able to get buy with a great filter vs replacing the tank like I did. I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend and deal with. 2 yrs ago, wow that's worth than my 1 yr hiatus and my 6 mo hiatus added together. Has it been indoors? Mine was outdoors in Miami but always covered. I don't know what kind of weather texas has this time of year or if you get snow ( I'm kinda dumb when it comes to geography and knowing weather other than NY and FL ) ... but if you don't deal with snow and have the great 70 degree breezy weather miami is having, its a great time to work on projects Or you can just drag it in the house and work on it while watching TV like I have before. I did it to get me to fix it faster but it didnt work. It sat in my living room for like 2 months one time LOL. Well pushing the scooter fix off until tomorrow. I feel like if I have a legitimate excuse and post it here it will hold me accountable and keep me from going MIA and pushing things off as usual. New bike parts came today so I've been working on that. I was going to try to get the the scooter this afternoon but its pouring now so shooting for tomorrow. On a positive note I learned the innards of a rear tire hub and the beach cruiser is no longer clanking loud and embarrassing me around the neighborhood. Can't wait for the parts for the mountain bike to come so I can fix that and have my 15lbs lighter / faster bike up and running too

We'll see what condition its in when I go retrieve it, which I'm hoping that will be later this winter. It has always been stored indoors (first in my garage, then moved to a storage unit.) We moved from the Orlando area to Dallas, TX back in February and a few of our things got shoved into storage back in Florida. We didn't really think that through, but it gives us an excuse to go back and visit. We should have just gotten a bigger truck the first time around and moved everything and put it all in storage here in Texas. We moved from a 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment, so it wasn't all going to fit. I'm not sure how much riding I'll be able to do in the winters around here. From what I saw last year, Dallas does get a bit of snow, but the big problem is ice. As far as finding a place to work on it, I'll probably end up doing that at the place where its stored. It it was at all possible, i might consider bringing things into our apartment, but that would mean taking the scooter up three flights of stairs. Not going to happen. My hiatus was definitely longer than yours. If you feel like reading, here's a thread with a few more details.

Thanks. I'll check it out. When I moved from my apartment in Miami Beach to my apartment in North Miami where I am now I was able to get the scooter up the ramp into a uhaul truck by myself and put it between two couches that were back to back to secure it lol. I had to put a tiny piece of cardboard wedged into the top of the ramp to make the bump at the top less severe so I could get the scooter in, but it worked I can see needing storage going from a bigger place to a smaller one. I went from a studio to a 1 bedroom. If I ever lived with someone we would prob need a storage spot, large shed or one hell of a garage sale.

Yeah, we purged some things that we knew we weren't going to need, but we still just had too much stuff that we planned on keeping for later. The initial plan was that we were going to make the move into an apartment for a year while we feel out the area and then move into a house. At this point, we're probably going to move into another apartment, maybe a rental house if we're lucky enough to find something we can afford. Buying a house has been put on hold for a year or so while we recover from my wife not working for 6 months, but that's a whole different story (a financial nightmare).

That's cool. My favorite way to purge would be if Humane Society Of Greater Miami had garage sales (i'd donate to give back what they gave me ) - two healthy dogs. They do so much for animals that don't even have homes yet and they are no kill. My boy had about $5,000 worth of surgeries before I adopted him and my girl had about $2,000 into her. I wish they had more trhift stores where the $$ goes to animals. I had the idea of opening a trift store called Second Hand Wags but don't have the time or money to do it. A friend of mine is interested in taking the idea though Also if I could sell things on ebay without shipping being $$$$ id sell a bunch there. I bought something from china that was $1 to ship to me. If i shipped it back it would be $15! Geeeze. So I just have more than I need for now. I went from a $700 studio in south beach to a $800 studio in miami beach to a $900 1 bedroom house on water with a yard for $900 in North Miami and I'll prob stay here for a good 5-10 more years. I love it. Its way more quiet than miami beach and I have a great landlord. The key to getting an affordable rental house where you are not sharing walls in Miami is to find a property that has a big main home but a guest house, in laws quarters, etc.. separate behind it and that's what I scored after looking forever. Its about 40' behind the main house and I have plenty of privacy. Thank God electricity, trash and water is included since my AC has been off for the first time in about 10 months this past week lol. I have no interest in buying. I'd rather not be tied down to a house and the taxes and insurance on a home here ( something you don't get back ) is the same as rent ( something you won't get back ) so I'm happy renting. Maybe in 10 yrs I'll move to Cali or further down into the FL Keys

Maybe in 10 yrs I'll move to Cali or further down into the FL Keys Same as rent? Rent is throwing money down a hole. Insurance just like buying tires for a car is a given, one can and should insure contents even in a rent house.
Taxes on a home in most cases can be deducted on your tax return and also the interest you pay on the mortgage so you do get something back here. Paying on a home is an investment, if you buy wisely take care of it you can make some if you decide to sell if the market in your area is good, after all the value of a home should go up year after year.
So if you decide to move in 10 years a home should pay you back on your purchase while rent again is money down a hole with nothing at all in return.
Now you are paying $900 a month for one bedroom? I have a 4 bedroom house, 5 acres of land, storage buildings, and lots of land improvements and utilities, house payment, insurance and taxes I'm not paying $900 a month for all combined.
$900 a month? $500 a month here will get you a house rent or own with scenery like this:
Even a white Christmas.
Self, remind me to never move to Florida. Also I can understand the people at the auto parts.

I'll agree on all points JR. I'm hating renting but have been given no choice for now. Besides the young lady sounds to be rather handy so she could buy a rental property and live in one unit for free or maybe even make some money. I'm sure she would prefer to stay in the south but, there has to be less expensive places even in Florida. But the bigger question is how did this discussion about fuel lines turn to what it is. I guess, for us northerners, parked bike syndrome is starting to set in.

Good info JR. Ya Miami Beach and areas close to the ocean are expensive. Studios rentals run $700 to $3,500 a month to rent. One bedrooms rentals run $900 to $5,000 a month. In my Miami Beach the average home (single family, not condo) is about $500,000 for a 3 bedroom 2 bath and the taxes run about $20,000 a year. No interest in trying to afford or pay that and no other place I'd rather live than Miami Beach. Sometimes I ponder the thought of Malibu Beach or Key West but Miami is where my heart is and has been for even 7 yrs before I moved here. Crazy expensive but I love it so much here and don't want to be tied down to a house. Hell I won't even do a 2 yr phone contract. I like to have the option to get up and move to another place when I feel like it without having baggage. Most people see it as an investment but to those who don't like to be tied down its baggage. Different strokes for different folks Beautiful photos there but I never want to live in a place where the average temp is at least 80 year round. I need heat and to be able to bike to the ocean 24/7 I need to start my day like this every morning I'm from NY. I'll never do cold/snow again hehee running slow talking about getting his back on the road after neglecting it longer than I did due to moving, etc... is what turned the convo from scooter to moving and places people live Hopefully I'll have good news with the fuel line issue tomorrow On a side note, I wish I could type out a smiley face on this forum and get one that doesn't wave ----> LOL

One week was enough for me to know I don't like sand, the ocean and having to figure out that Arkie slang and whatever they speak there doesn't mix well.
Too flat and I like a break from the heat and lawn mower, plus our snow is a once or twice a year make a snowman type with less than 12" normal and it melting in 2 to 3 days.
Never have seasons there. Like right now it's fall here and the fall colors are breath taking and it's till warm enough to go scooter riding and enjoy them.
I sit in my porch swing every morning with my coffee looking a the mountain every morning.
Too many people in Florida. The Miami metro-plex alone has more people than this entire state.
I'll stay in the hills.

I have sand in my toes daily and love it Too flat and I like a break from the heat and lawn mower, plus our snow is a once or twice a year make a snowman type with less than 12" normal and it melting in 2 to 3 days. ------------------> flat is good for biking far quickly and easily for me & my rent includes the gardeners that deal with the mowing and landscaping. Cool that you don't get a ton of snow. I know there are MANY places that I could get far more for far less cost but I love it here so it's worth it to me. Never have seasons there. I love metro, tons of people and big city + lots of heat. That's where we differ. I think you're a country guy and I'm a city woman

Yep I don't metro anything, ride a scooter and drive a Chevy. Live where I don't walk out my back door and can spit in my neighbor's yard. I'm raising two grandkids and I take them to school every morning a 14 mile drive to a little school with less than 500 students in it grades 7 to 12. No crowds and everyone speaks the same language, simple, small and lot's of elbow room.

That's funny because I find myself saying " omg I love metro " when I'm getting all over Miami fast with the metro system.
Wow a 14 mile drive to school! I went to a school that was about 500 students for 7-12 but it was a 14 min WALK away.
I'm off to bed. Night scooter heads

Wow... didn't mean to start such a debate! JR, what you're describing in AR is a lot how it was me growing up in west Michigan. My parents still live on 40 acres and their closest neighbor is 1/4 mile away. I had a 9 mile ride/drive to my K-12 school where my graduating class had 39 people. Some of the HS guys would ride their snowmobiles to school in the winter. The closest movie theater was a good 20 miles and the nearest shopping mall was about an hour away. The "good" mall was an hour and a half. The biggest news story for awhile was when the Applebee's by the movie theater burned down and how long it was going to take to rebuild. It was a great place to raise a family and I wouldn't trade my childhood for anything. I still see it as a great place to visit, but it no longer feels like home. As far as buying v. renting... I know I've been throwing money away for years. We plan on buying as soon as we're able. It'll be cheaper to buy a house than it is to rent an apartment around here. Just a few other financial matters to resolve first.

Haha. Not a debate, just thoughts on rent vs own and and cost of living in different areas So you guys are both from a " country type " background. If 1 is total country, nothing around for miles and 10 is huge city... I grew up in a 7 and I now live in a 9 (i'd only consider NYC a 10 and chicago a 9.5) I like a lot of people around especially tourists because I love helping people find places on south beach. My goal is to figure out the gas line issue by noon. Haven't gone out there yet
