Hi Guys, I am a newbie here. Just bought a 125cc scooter and am having trouble passing the emissions standard. Are there any methods I can use to lower the emissions output? Much appreciated! |

In illinois I passed emissions on a yugo 20 years ago that did not have the insides of the cat converter in place. What I was told to do by a knowledgeable friend was to add denatured alcohol to the gas, get engine hot by driving 20 min on the highway, do not shut it off while waiting in line and pray....it passed with flying colors. I probably had 1/4 to 1/3 alcohol in the tank. It takes a lot more alcohol to go a mile so what I think it did was lean out the mix. The cat converter started breaking up in side and would clog up the exhaust pipe so I took off the exhaust pipe and put a bent rod in a 1/2 drill and prodded out all of the honey comb in the converter and put it back together.

I never heard of probing a scooter either. Could take it back to dealer if new, if not new it may have a bigger main jet in it that might have to go back to stock.

Lean it out and make sure the PAIR is hooked up. Make sure the air cleaner is clean. They make additives to pass smog tests, I don't know how well they work.

Need to pass euro 3 standard. Does mixing ethanol into the fuel mix work? right now, I am adjusting my carburettor in the hopes of lowering emissions. I am afraid my bike is not of very good quality, brought it over from China.

European emissions for scooters? WHEW!  Had us worried there for a minute. Don't come in here yelling EMISSIONS dude... You can cause heart failure like that.   I would use the emissions additive, make sure all your filters are nice and clean, Maybe a hotter spark, and lean the fuel a bit with alcohol. No, not the kind you drink. |
