I've pretty much decided to buy a real keihin carb. I've had good luck with them on Harleys in the past.my ? is who to buy from.I see John from NYC has them for a good price.he seems like a honest guy.but I was burned on what I thought was a real Japanese keihin from a guy I also thought was honest It ended up being a bad knock off it looked rite even had the keihin logo on it.so I'm kind of hasten to buy from someone I don't know .so if any of you out there can put in a good word for John I'm all ears.I know John is on this forum now and then and John if you read this thread please don't take it personal.it's just business.I look forward to any and all comments.

Just have to ask what does a keihin carb give you that a knock off doesn't? I have a keihin knock off carb on mine and have had it on for over 4 years and haven't taken it off once to clean it all I do is lean it for the summer and richen it for the winter. They are all the same I really do not believe it is worth the extra money for a REAL KEIHIN and I am a carb guy for decades I know carbs in and out. My 24mm for my 150 trike carb cost me 30+ bucks.
Now I can tell you MOST that you see as KEIHIN carbs are NOT the real KEIHIN carbs the give away is the cap that covers the diaphgram if it is NOT BLACK with KEIHIN ON IT, it is a knock off.

scoot, Alleyoop Ok let me start from the beginning as I said I have had good luck with keihins in the past.and don't really want to spend the extra doe.so maybe if you are the carb. guy you can help me .the scooter is a 150cc with a after market air cleaner, emissions are by pasted with stock muffler (I'm building a custom exhaust out of stainless tubing but it's not finished )I'm now running a 110 main and 35 intermediate have adjusted air fuel mix in and out 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 turns can get it close but still wants to bog down on hard acceleration seems to do better at 3 turns out .i maybe wrong but this tells me I'm too small on the main .checked spark plug looks good, color on the gray side hope this helps if you need more info just ask.thanks in advance.

Oh mean the top route? Mikuni makes a side control flatslide now and it's tiny,,, ran one on my Vespa ,, it's the only one that worked well,,, I used a vm series before that but no acc pump so it had the occasional flatspot,, the tm flatslide took care of that,,, I almost went to the darkside with a keihin on that application but pussied out and went mikuni

cyborg sound like a good fix wish I had that back in my Harley days the carbs always sat so close to the bottom of the gas tanks with that 90 turn on the cable it was hard to get it to work well.I did see some guys just let it fly in the wind looked like sh*# and not to safe.but guess it worked for them.

scoot, Alleyoop, cyborg ok got a little side tracked their, nettle taper?do you mean the nettle it's self or the bore in the carb body being worn out ?the carb is in good shape as far as I can tell or I'm I way off base.one thing I forgot to tell you is I extended the air cleaner tube to clear the frame but I don't think that would matter as the stock tube to the air box was twice as long.

All kidding aside i think Alley has the lock on what works with scooters,,,and if you can latch on to a taiwanese keihin copy go for it,,,they are damned near indistinguishable from the japanese ones,,,just about all the parts including jets fit from the original,,at a fraction of the cost of one from japan

i meant the needle taper on the bottom of the slide,,i've seen stumbling and bogging if the needle taper isn't correct,,,,Alley can chime in here any second,,,don't the diaphragm carbs run a little hinky without the airbox?

My experience with the $25.00 knock off is almost identicle to Alley's...3 seasons of running, never been off, or cleaned. Scooter runs great, always starts, and idles, has no flat spots, has never bogged. The last gallon of gas I burned, delivered 91.5 mpg. Don't know what more I could ask for. I run a K&N filter, stock exhaust, a 115 main jet, and all emissions have been removed. I know it sounds a bit too rich, but it isn't in my case. Spark plug has a nice tan color, is original equipment, and has 5800 miles on it. Might have something to do with my intake tube design (1.5" radiator hose, with a piece of pvc used to connect filter to hose) That pvc inside diameter is probably close to 1.25" [img src=" i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj622/rks3526/IMG_0080.jpg" src=" " alt=" "] I believe that you would be totally satisfied with the carb you have, if it were jetted correctly.

Yep, try a 112 main jet maybe it may take a 115, if it bogs on hard excel it is to much air not enough juice Yep K&N filter on mine as well.
