I surf a lot of scooter part stores, but one item I haven't seem to come across yet is a really good gasket set...
I could care less about cost, I'm looking for the highest quality gaskets one can get... Anyone have links or opinions?
------------------------------
Also, what about gasket sealant? I've seen a few sources say use NONE, but I haven't seen anything that recommends using a sealant. In fact, every GY6 breakdown and rebuild Video I've seen, when they crack the case, it only looks like the gasket was in there with no sealant.
Because this is an aluminum block, copper gasket spray will help conduct/distribute the heat, but what about other spots like the crank halves?

I spent a lot of time searching today and most of the "performance types" of gaskets sets are only performance because they're for BBK's and mods... I have came across some that look higher quality than others like in the following pics, but I can't seem to locate an entire set... And, to top it off, looks could be deceiving.... What do you all think would be the better gasket based on the pics 1 or 2? PIC 1: PIC 2:

Yeah, the one on the left. I got my last gaskets from Mike at BPNW and they were like the ones on the left....worked great. They are the bi-metal ones with the copper rings on them. Now, as far as sealant, the theory is that it actually expands the tolerances especially on the tower. Also, sealant on the case halves supposedly makes for a poor union with the crank because it holds the case apart. I've never had any trouble using copper sealant and red RTV but who knows? It's what I've read. Rich

Try my fine friends at Cometic gasket. 800/752-9850 Ohio based company. Very high end, choices of materials and thickness. Nice for setting up the top end at Zero Deck. Wip up customs in a day or two.

I can see coughing up the cost for a set of gaskets for a 5,000+ racing motor but not on a 300.00 dollar motor..LOL Big overkill if you ask me and won't buy you anything over a good set of chino gaskets. Alleyoop

Alleyoop I had them make me custom head and three different thickness of base gasket for under $12. bucks. Stuck them in the mail for cheap shipping for me. Just a different option. figured as much

Did someone say sealant? Well if you want to really stick it together, man up and use this crap!
And if you're in the mood to take something apart with a hammer and chisel use this old time favorite!
And yes I still have some of this crap too!
